I'm a licensed Cosmetologist (although I don't practice it on anyone but family and friends) and I have had many different cuts, colors and styles. I think going through beauty school gave me a more relaxed attitude toward my hair, but I have always been impulsive.

Currently I have a short pixie cut, but I've had my hair grown halfway down my back too. I can understand the fear of having beautiful long hair cut too short, but my theory was that I can always get it back eventually. It is difficult not to roll my eyes when girls ask me for something fun and sexy when I see them pull it back everyday. What is the fun and sexy style for if you aren't going to STYLE it?

I don't think there are many bad stylists out there (to my experience) but there IS a prevalence of miscommunication between the customer and the stylist. Bringing photos (More than just one!!!) is safest, don't assume that the stylist is going to know what your description of your perfect haircut means. There is nothing a stylist hates more than a vague description.

I could go on and on about this.

I once changed my regular haircuts (4 top 3 sides, squared back, pointy sideburns), I got a fohawk (not full mohawk)...Best decision in my life. It looked good on me, chicks digged it...oh yeah, then I got a job and was forced to cut it.

This is just my personal experience, but the hair cutters at Walmart suck ass at giving hair cuts.

I got the most butchered shit from those places. They even fucked up a Caesar cut. I've had some crooked-ass cuts from them too.

My hometown barber waxes and cuts. Quite well I might add. Granted, I almost never ask her to take off more than an inch, so most people can never even tell I've gotten a hair cut because it's so damn long before and after the cut.

My worst hair cut experience comes from my dad. Fucker tried to shave me bald. Back then I thought it was awesome, but he's shaved his head bald since he was 17, and I've grown to appreciate my long, thick, and curly hair since those days, and both me and my grandmother would beat him a good one if he tried that shit again.

I used to cut my hair in college, but I'll go to a barber now. Can't really stand having long hair.

I don't like it because I can never decide what do do with my hair. I usually get there and I'm like ....uhhh...just make it short.

Since I taught myself how to fudge a decent cut in the Navy, I'll usually trim my own hair anymore, saving money so I don't look like older Gohan.
Worst:
In AZ, they had some sort of electrical ground issue at a shop we tried once, the damn clippers shocked the crap out of you if you were touching metal.
Obviously the first shave of boot... I already got talked into changing my style by the ladies to a shorter look, but they might as well have just bic'd me.
Best:
In AZ, either the place on 7th St and Tbird, before they went 50's sock hop, they used to be western themed (not really anything spectacular after you've been in AZ for a while) with a wooden Indian and all sorts of cool junk.
The other one is 21st and Greenway, I think they were Russian, or at least one of the old liberated block countries, always a freaking awesome old-school haircut with the straight razor and everything. Nothing special about the shop, they just did a damn good job.

I already have a vision on what I'd want my hair to look when I go to the salon. I bring a photo or bookmark the webpage in my phone so I can show it to the stylist. Sometimes they'd be a little surprised with my choices, but I know my hair routine best and know what works and what doesn't.

I go to a place called Sportsclips, they do a very decent job, and know mens haircuts and styles better than cheap places that you can find anywhere like Snip N Clip or Great Clips
