I think it would be selfish for the wife to decide for herself what the name is unless the husband doesn't care. I think the whole "she had to carry and give birth to the child" is a load of bull - it's not just her child, it's their child. He contributed his genes just as much as her and had to deal with a pregnant wife (have seen many pregnant women, and some of them are total asses to their husbands). And the child itself is their gift, if they didn't want it then they shouldn't have had sex. They should decide TOGETHER.

I already know what I want to name my daughter - I could understand if my wife didn't agree, but if she one sidedly chose the name and didn't give me any input, I would be pissed . I wouldn't marry someone if they were the kind of person to do that anyway

My english teacher told us a story about this. He wanted to name his son Tristen because it was such a "cool" name....but his wife didn't think so. In the end they went with what she picked, some boring name like peter

1 Timothy 2:12

This is a nice inflammatory bible quote, but I think it does not apply to the context of the thread. This is from Paul's letters to Timothy, and is actually stating opposition to female clergy, not naming of children.

Regardless, it takes a little more than that to get women to shut up. Many have tried; many have failed.

It's a team effort...unless one of them dies, then it's a solo effort.

Why do I think of such things?

i'm actually twitching at all of these sexist comments.

both parents should talk about it, don't you think? if the woman chooses a name like naruto, i think the dad should be allowed to be like "honey, no..." even if that doesn't happen, i still think it's better for both parents to discuss names. isn't it more fun when someone else is helping?

It should be both parents. No contest. Both parties go through a lot with the wife doing the whole carry and birth thing and the husband with the catering to the hormonal beast with odd cravings and morning sickness and then worrying half to death during the birth at the sight of his wife in so much pain. Both parents should name it.

neither!! the baby should deside it's own name.... it's not fair for a baby being forced with a name that he had no say over the he or she has to use for the rest of their life ,unless they get a name change...
