If Democrats were to see those statistics they would claim the only solution is to quickly pass a law that all guns be made illegal.

If Republicans were to see those statistics they would claim the only solution is to quickly pass a law that all boys be made illegal.

Ooh! Politics!

Basically the truth, but I don't think that either of those are the answer.

Not only is the second amendment in place, but people can get guns illegally extremely easy.

Only criminals would have guns in that case. Which wouldn't be a good thing. Then they're things like gun collectors, people who shoot for fun, etc. They still want their guns, and they wouldn't be able to get them unless they are willing to do something illegal. Criminals most likely buy their guns illegally now. Because they either don't have a gun license, or because it is harder to trace.

Either way, the only way to stop criminals from getting guns is to get rid of every gun in existence.

Which is impossible. So legalizing guns is a-ok with me. So I disagree with both of those.

I fully understand the point, I don't think I have ever seen a woman go into an absolute blind rage about something, most female killers would have more directed attacks at the source of their anguish (kill one person, or people involved) and make sure that they have a contingency / way to not get caught. It's human nature though, unfortunately although people say females generally get more emotional, the guys are the ones who let their feelings take control of them and not think things through.

(Yes, I do understand that I pretty much summed up the points you made.)

Either way I will just say its nature.

Men kill babies a lot, quite a surprise just how many when women spend far more time actually around children, even in developed countries so you'd expect there to be a massive gap but no. Despite spending less time around children in general, men kill a surprising amount.

Here the figures for the US, from 1976-2005

Note: Parents includes stepparents.
Of all children under age 5
murdered from 1976-2005 --
31% were killed by fathers
29% were killed by mothers
23% were killed by
male acquaintances
7% were killed by other relatives
3% were killed by strangers

Source http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htius.pdf

So when it comes to shootings and infanticide men commit both more often. But why?

The (general) answer isn't as difficult as people make it seem (however, the question itself is quite fascinating).

(Side Note: Keep in mind that males that kill are either psychologically abnormal or not. Those that are cannot fit in this category. This is why my explanation is general and not necessarily universal.)

First are genetics. Most serial killers (and killers in general) have the warrior gene (Monoamine oxidase A, MAO-A). This gene has been linked to risk taking, aggression, and rage. However, plenty of males who have never killed anything have this gene. In order for the "serial killer" in them to come out, there needs to be a trigger. It turns out that the trigger is likely sociological. The really rare aggression gene is the MAOA-L gene (L means low). This is an environmental trigger for MAOA that has been linked to childhood abuse (though not always). People with MAOA-L were twice as likely to commit acts of violence than those with only MAOA.

Second is a sociological trigger. So, a genetic predisposition for rage coupled with the sociological conditioning that males go through, it is no surprise that males become cold and seemingly apathetic (or, at least, it becomes easier not to regret some acts of violence). This conditioning has lead surprising results: Males are less likely to have certain risk factors noticed by relatives or professionals at a young age (like risk taking and aggression). They are expected to be "manly" and dissociate from anything feminine (crying, etc. presumably founded on the incorrect conclusion that women are more emotional than men - which is likely a sociological effect as well). In some cases, this can lead to extreme acts of violence (and contrary to popular belief, there need not be a TON of reasoning behind the killings). Even though the number of homicides committed by both males and females have gone down, males are ~10x more likely to commit mass murder than females. I do not mean for this post to ignore conditioning for women, but apparently women aren't conditioned to be aggressive (or at least not nearly as much as men are). Although men are way more likely to kill than women, women are not more likely to be the victims of homicide. In general, men are more likely to kill and be the victims as well.

It's safe to say that males are groomed in a way that predisposes us to potential acts of violence. That being said, the warrior gene makes extreme violence WAY more likely.

^ Aryth brings up some good points. could have to do with how males are more likely to have much more violent suicides than females. Its also been shown that with how our society views gender differences, women are allowed to confide within others to ease stress, whereas men doing the same is looked down upon. A woman crying to a friend is not considered weird, a man crying to a friend however is not considered normal. My point being that these differences may also play a role in how different genders deal with a build up of stress.

Women are generally less violent. And they're more reasonable when it comes to reasoning with their own mind. I mean, "Let's kill innocent people and then kill myself afterwards"... just doesn't make sense to a female's mind.

They often will think twice about why they do certain things. If you see a female committing a crime, it is usually fueled by something like jealousy over a lover, a feeling which overrides their ability to reason with themselves.

Of course, males are even more susceptible to jealousy.

How many females do you know?

Male's are more aggressive, they have twice the testosterone as women. They are also socialized for violence at a young age.

Because women who kill prefer to do so in different ways. A woman is more likely to kill a friend, lover, relative, or child; also someone more defenseless, such as an elderly person. They also tend to prefer poisoning as their murder weapon. While most serial killers are male, there have been a fair number of female serial killers. I believe I read once that most female serial killers are nurses who kill their patients. Not sure if that's true or not though.
