Head down to the local Walmart. Guns and food for months until you can figure out a better place to go. You definitely need to avoid cities. Small desert towns or islands would be the ideal places.

I started to stack canned food that lasts for 5 years or so, keep a few months worth in my closet.
I use them when I go camping so they don't spoil, and then buy new ones to replace them.

So I'll be hunkered down in my home, because that's probably the safest place.
But...I'm sure I'll go mad being all alone, so I 'might' just invite someone else in.

I don't have any weapons yet, so, I'm going to invest in one of those...
preferably an AA-12 and AK-107.

Two months in, I'm going hunting.
Seeing as the worst might be over.

Actually the CDC jumped on the Zombie bandwagon.

They printed a zombie apocalypse survival guide. That just coincidentally includes all the precautions they'd like people to take in case of any of the many real apocalypses the Center for Disease Control is actually worried about.

From what I've gleaned from the internet.... everyone is so ridiculously well prepared for a zombie apocalypse that it probably won't end up being much to worry about anyway.

Ally myself with small groups of survivors, stab them in the back when we hit a safe looking area, take what i need and move on to the next group, and finally hope that karma doesn't kill me in the end.

I've actually thought this through quite a bit. I would head to the closest store that sells firearms and grab what I could. I would then do my best to leave the most populated areas, avoiding the highway of course, and lay low for a week or two. At that point, either a cure is found or 90% of the population is already dead. Honestly, for that first week, other living people will probably cause more deaths than the zombies. Once that happens, attempt to gather as much food from stores as possible, than head to the closest marina. Try to secure a dock with a barricade of some sort, then leave by boat for the nearest oil rig.

Reason for securing the dock is because it will become necessary to return to land to scavenge for food and supplies and at least having the dock secure will be a big help.

If you find a survivor either leave them if they look like particularly bad news or if you take them, quarantine them for however long the gestation period of the virus is. Above all, never trust them with a firearm.

From there it pretty much becomes rinse and repeat and try to make the best of it.

If zombies don't start to die out from starvation within a year, DO NOT procreate. The human race is done for and bringing a child into that hell is unforgivable. Just try and survive and enjoy what's left of your life.

Also a pro tip for getting ready for the zombie apocalypse, learn Parkour. Zombies will have a very tough time catching you when you can climb any free standing structure within a second or two.

1) Obtain food, water, fuel and weapons.
2) Survive initial aftermath by hiding in the most remote place I can reach.
3) Find suitable building in which to live, preferably near the coast, relatively high with few entrances/exits.
4) Build autonomous zombie defence system (like an engineering boss ).
5) Occasionally leave to gather supplies/practice conventional zombie fighting.

I was thinking about this yesterday even and how I'd like to cut something with a Katana. Can anyone say: Dual-Wielding.

Oh and all the traditional stuff like food, shelter, shotgun, clique, sheriff hat...

A must have...

Body armor - I doubt those zombies can bite through body armor.

The first means of survival for me would be grabbing my other half and finding a spot where they can't reach us. Such as an upstairs apartment, etc. and create a way for quick access to the roof. Fill up a bathtub or something with clean water, all the sinks, so that we have a good water supply.

Then I'd take to the roofs to see where we could find a place that would allow us an open water source, out in an area where there is less likely to be any contact. And always stay on the move! A target that moves is a hard target to eat.

Find a weapon that doesn't need an ammunition source that needs to be refilled. Guns are no good. But a machete or a bat of some type...might work. It would require close combat fighting, but it's better than suddenly running out of bullets.

*considers* After that I guess I would try and build a place wherever I found that there was a good area - fresh water supply, free(mostly) of zombies, easily defensible. Even if I had to build those defenses myself. And wait for the suckers to die. Might die, might not, but at least I would've tired.
