Yeah, I wasn't super keen on it at first but it really grew on me, really turned out to be more than your standard harem show or your standard spirits and demons show.

Okay, here's my main gripe about this show. I thought it was too ambitious. There's too much stuff going on and too many conflicting emotions at different times. It did try very hard to be more than your standard action harem, but I kind of wish it didn't. My favorite parts of the whole show were when they were just in school getting into your standard ecchi harem hijinks, with Touka being overly moe and Origami being cute and creepy at the same time. Those parts were the best, despite not being very original in concept, because they worked nice and simply. Having all the fantasy spirit battles and all the action in the middle of it was good to an extent, but perhaps seemed rushed or just poorly done. But it was just an unwelcome development for me.

I also kind of hold it against AIC Plus for its strange aesthetics, and also against Funimation for having crappy quality.

Anyway, I do like the show, and not all of its serious parts fell flat. Kurumi in particular was awesome and creepy. I also thought Shido was a really good and deserving harem lead.

So yeah, 7.5/10

Kinda agree with True Goober.

I could have done with more of innocent Tokha and creepy/cute/deadpan/emotional Origami.

Crazy clock-Eye girl was interesting too.

The rest of the 'frontline' cast was meh.

Though I loved the 'Aging' commander of the Valkeries and episode were the forces of spirit capture tried to get between her and her onsen.

Oh, that ending! Rage-inducing Ship Tease! How cruel.

Whatever, it still pretty much confirms Tohka's 'victory' in the harem thus far, so a pretty good ending all-in-all

Now to just fruitlessly hope for a UK release...

I hope Tohka will get a bit more serious in the next season - being nice and brave all the time does not suit her
The mist of danger should be essential for this show considering the titel "Date a Live", especially when skipping the space between "a" and "Live"

You have to remember the reason the anime exists is to sell stuff. If they wanted to really cover all the info in the novels which included a lot more of the silly school stuff and ecchi harem moments you liked they would have had to lengthen the anime a lot. For example the first 3 episodes of the show are 1 book, the next 2 episodes are also 1 book. They could have easily made the 2nd book 3 episodes as well. In fact even the first 3 episodes missed out on info from the book and could have been longer. They don't do it though because the idea is to have the anime give people an idea of what the series is like so they will want to go out and buy the light novels. Me I enjoyed the series because it gives a chance for someone that has already read the novels to see most of the characters animated and brought to life. Sure I would have liked more details from the novels in the story but overall I think they did a pretty good job.

Not too bad of a show, overall, and I really have to agree with all those that said it started off pretty slow, but picked up as the series went on. I think my favorite comedy part was finding out that Kotori's happiness/love meter towards Shido had already been maxed out even before their date, lol.

I was shipping them from the start, lol. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's never actually a clear choice by the end of the LN or anime series.

Not that I'm aware of, just a twitter release (https://twitter.com/KoshiTachibana/status/348122391311953923) on June 21 by the light novel writer, Koshi Tachibana, confirming a second season and that it's currently in production.
You can try replying to Tashibana-san's tweet and asking though, lol.

I was stalled on this show about halfway through its run and recently just finished it off.

I'm a little bit shocked that there's going to be a season 2 happening. The show was alright, but the premise was pretty cheesy and the characters were pretty forgettable. I really don't understand Japanese taste in anime in terms of what sells well and what doesn't sell well. There's oh so many other titles that I would kill for a second season of, yet it's mediocre stuff like this that gets pushed through. Ugh.

Don't get me wrong, I like it well enough and will watch the second season. But it does get a little bit frustrating over the years to see so many quality shows disappear into the void of selling like crap domestically and never being animated again

Date A Live was an anime that had many mixed criticism. Some enjoyed the anime whereas others did not, personally for me i love romance/comedy anime even though most are perceived as cliched, annoying, and or childish. Date A Live was incredibly cliched, but yet isn't that what makes these type of anime enjoyable? Its the fact that we are so used to watching cliched anime that we look forward to those scenes in the anime that we completely forget entirely that we are watching complete crap and with no storyline and bad writing. Anime is anime and although some can't attain to the tastes of certain people we watch them all the same. I for one enjoyed Date A Live, i loved the cliched moments, the action moments, and as well as the character development and the plot(even though its roughly related to how The World God Only Knows goes along). My favorite character is the gluttonous spirit Tohka. Her dead, silent, confused personality changed to whiney, bubbly, and downright adorable after Shido so called "sealed her spirit essence" inside of himself! And for all the people who criticized this anime for being too cliched and having a terrible plot, well all i have to say to that is "its getting a 2nd season" so if it was as really bad as people claimed it to be this would've been the end and it would've slowly died out like all the other single season anime that didn't make it to the big leagues!
