i would say that there is both a lot of love and a lot of hate for SAO.
One side loves it completely and the other recognizes the flaws in the show and cannot understand the side that loves it so this leads to arguments between the two sides.

Me, I like it but I have no illusions that it is even close to being the masterpiece that some people think it is.

This is just an endless.

SAO anime is good in term of art and fight scene, the same one who make Fate Zero make the fight scene so the quality is superior compare to other anime.

The plot about MMo world that really fit with most of us who like internet and stuff. Over powered main char with heavy plot armor and a punch of cute girls around, what you need more? lol

The things is if you really care about the plot of SAO, the anime actually have a lot of plot hole that if you not read the Light Novel you will not understand sh**. A lot of things got skipped and rushed in the anime, they should make the whole first arc into 25 episode instead.

Most of people hate SAO because they can't read, tried to recommend some one read it and they say reading just make their head hurt, So i give up, hater gonna hate, no need to think about them anymore.

Most of ppl who read the LN will see the weak point of the anime pretty clearly but see their favorite characters from the LN moving talking and fighting is their greatest eyes's feast after reading hundreds page of text. Like me

SAO is a great anime.
Rip-off of .hack? Ignore them lol.

So much wasted development. So much wasted potential. There's so much to it and if you can't plainly see why the community has such mixed feelings about it all, perhaps you just need more experience. Not just watching anime, mind you, but experiencing any sort of truly good story.

I feel like I could have done better, given the resources. Of course, the entire matter is completely subjective, though, if we consider the seemingly consistant and apparently large amount of negative feedback about the series, we'll find that there were definitely missed opportunities. It's not an exact science (few things in life can be so simple), but in the end, it's not about the unassailable facts, but instead, what our experiences led us to feel and what actions arose from those feelings.

If we allow ourselves to be changed by what we experience, then we are greater than our former selves. Perhaps the anime was purposefully disappointing for people like me, for the sole purpose of motivating people like me to create something better. Maybe that's what anything is, really - just a stepping stone for the next best thing. People make mistakes, not just so they can learn from them, but so other people and avoid them altogether without having to fail, themselves.

I'm not so sure I have the time to dedicate towards it, but I'd like to give it a try.
One of these days... I'll do something amazing.

I didn't like it because:
1. Too many crappy side stories
2. Main chara was overpowered
3. ALO was terrible
4. It never explained why Kayaba did what he did

Yeah admittedly that scene was much more disturbing in the anime than when it played out in my head as I read the novels.
it was still pretty disturbing but by God that scene was creepy in the anime.

Because the anime was full of shit, in which the shit put in didn't needed to be in the anime, the shit I'm talking about are the side stories.

SAO ep 1, 2 skip to ep (protagonist gets recruited), skip to beating last boss. would been fine as a 6 episode ova.

Introduce fairy dance as another 6 ep ova or give it a series to "hype" it up even more, since the 6 ep ova would of been better.

The main failure of this anime is, the adaption from the novels, since the novels are based around a composition of ARC's. Each ARC needed to have it's own time to debut and shine. Combining two ARC's together was a failure of the directing and green lit team.

If SAO had been SAO for a 12 first season, it would of ended with a HUGE cliff hanger and if it had been done well it would of gotton a second season fairy dance. I do understand that the company wanted closure by combining the two ARC's, but now look how much hate and love this anime has received because of poor planning and execution of the story base.

It was one arc. its even said in the anime, SAO isn't over for kirito until he is reunited with Asuna. And if that isnt enough go talk to the people at baka-tsuki or something. The story revolves around kirito and asuna not the games. But the animes were adapted poorly and should of been story-boarded better.

SAO was a really good anime, but saying it was amazing is ridiculous, people who say it was amazing are blindly following it and ignoring its flaws. I personally watched it 10 times over, and doing so noticed many problems with it. Firstly, it was way too rushed, it had a time leap of 4 months and then instantly time leaped 3 years, they could have used some of this time to further develop the characters.

Secondly they didn't even show boss fights because they were obviously impossible and couldn't be explained why they always won, 2 examples of this would be the fight between kirito and Nicholas the Renegade, everyone was saying it was impossible but somehow he managed to solo it and by the looks of it he didn't have much of a hard time. The other would be the Skull reaper fight, two guys were instantly 1 hit ko'ed to show how strong it was, and after a flurry of attacks it showed the damage hardly even registered on its hp bar, and yet suddenly were faced with skull reaper on barely any health? I find that extremely hard to believe.

And lets not forget the most annoying things of all, it never explained properly why Kayaba made SAO. It made the strong heroine Asuna completely useless in the ALO arc. Also another problem that they overlooked was the fact that in the Gleam Eyes fight why didn't Kirito get the final attack bonus?
In all this anime was wasted potential, it was good but nowhere near as good as it could have been. Lets just hope for the Gun Gale arc they give the story proper development.

Don't get me wrong its still one of the best animes i've seen but i still think its overrated.

Yup a lot of obvious plot hole that you can't understand without reading the LN .
