The series has WAY more lovers than haters. You can tell by the load of forums on CR all dedicated to SAO...

Anyways, if you really love SAO, than you shouldn't care about the haters. Haters gonna hate.

its never going to end ,the SAO love hate saga since the OVA are coming still and then the North America release with ADR done on it .

I wonder if the production company are also paying attention to why a lot hate SAO so much. I have never seen so much anger directed towards one anime in the 10 years I have been watching anime .

Never got into gaming to the extent most enthusiasts in the genre have so when I started to watch the series I wondered if that lack of game experience would affect my enthusiasm for the series. I liked SAO initially for the first several episodes. The show started sputtering, for me, when the elf arc got explored. There was no logical flow or progression in the story going there. It was just more idle time spent retreading a familiar path but this time with different settings, different characters.

The show didn't give enough time for the adversaries to develop personalities. Whatever you might think about the failed anime show SpeedGrapher the one thing this show got right was giving the bad asses endearing personalities, some which were quite exemplary near the story end too. Most of those bad people had souls, so much so a viewer could easily empathize, rightly or wrongly, with their plight and eventual story-driven end. Such character qualities are underdeveloped and virtually non-existent in SAO. Too bad too. SAO had the potential to be even better as a story and an audience memory than it is.

My disappointment with SAO was the 1-sided character development for the "good" people over the "bad" people. The script insulted the intelligence of a large number of the beginning viewing audience. Most contemporary audiences have a good perception what quality animation is and where it can take them if the script and production qualities are there. I think this is an underlying root of the controversy enveloping SAO. The production quality was good enough but both the script quality and continuity fell far short of the mark contemporary audiences expect to "experience" in any present day production.

Not all is lost however. If you happen to collect figurines SAO has released enough of your favorite characters presently. Just collect 'em all, set your camera up for video time-lapse synch. Lights, camera, action! OAV's, anyone?

For your information, I'm not a fan of SAO. I didn't even watch it. I'm just saying this through my general knowledge.
You're the dumb one for judging me by my age and my forum post.

I didn't think it was that bad, nowhere near the best, but it was the fandom that ruined it for me. Everytime I logged into Facebook I would see people posting pictures of SAO and spoiling the episodes- I usually do not mind that much but I start disliking an anime when it gets way much more attention than anime that actually deserve it. The final blow was probably when people started using "16.5" as a code and it was just so annoying.

Well i wouldn't say haters gonna hate. Think of it this way, while this anime does have a large fanbase, the content has been over-hyped, for example the story is really rushed leaving many plot-holes, I understand you haven't seen it so i won't say anymore, but I agree with the people saying it's content has been blown out of proportion, although I still personally enjoyed watching it.

I think you said it earlier, iashakezula: alot of people were very very disappointed.
There was ALOT of hype for the anime to begin with, and it's STILL going.

I'll admit, I was kinda expecting something taking up the .hack style in-an-MMO-world, but I was glad it was quite different.
The story was what was disappointing. Every episode was like a mini cliff-hanger, trying to get you hooked for the next episode, but every episode left something to be desired. That's fine for the people who like the cliffs, but if you're looking for something deeper, you're not going to find it. Period. You just have to enjoy the bumps along the way.

That said, I understand the people who "hate" SAO, although I wouldn't say it's so much hate as it is great disappointment, and thus anger with the producers over the lack of fulfillment of the hype. But what are you going to do about it? The producers need to make money, so they generated the hype, knowing that there would be people who liked it and to whom they could sell it. They were hoping for a pop hit. That's what they got. I think they knew from the beginning that this show was going to be a flash bang, make money quick, and then peter out. It's not Miyazaki, people.

I assume this also happened with Shakugan No Shana and such anime. It's pop anime - it's something you hype up, get a good fan base, make your money quick, and then watch it go back on the shelf 10 years down the road. I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if SAO got a second season. Why not? There's definitely a crowd that likes it, and it should make some more money quick.

Will the "haters" watch season 2 if there is one? I think some definitely will. I've considered it, even though personally, I didn't like it. Why? I think a 2nd season has a chance to redeem the series - a chance to actually have it go out with a good story. There are several things it would need to improve (esp. directing and character development), but it's certainly possible.

Hmmm, so you're saying the only reason to dislike SAO is because it's mainstream?

Hmmm, I would say its the reason for why most ppl don't like SAO but not all. It tends to happen a lot these days ^_^

Well, i'm not sure if it's the reason why most people dislike it, some yes, but reading the comments here it's clear that the majority of people dislike it because it wasn't developed enough, the characters and plot didn't seem to have the impact they could have had. They squeezed 4 light novels in to the span of 24 episodes. It really could have been better if they stayed on the SAO arc for 24 episodes instead of 14, and the ALO arc could have had its own season instead of becoming a 10 episode train-wreck. Perhaps train-wreck isn't the right word, but you can't deny that the majority of people had said it lacked in comparison to the SAO arc.
