Yes, the "normal" times to start series that are going to run for two broadcast seasons are Spring and Fall, so at the end of Winter, we see the end of both quarter-year series that started in Winter and half-year series that started in Fall.

Some half-year seasons start Winter or Summer (Legend of the Legendary Heroes which Funimation streamed, Chihaya Furu, continuing this season her at Crunchyroll), but its less common.

So there will be fewer continuing series and fewer new series in a normal Spring and Fall than in Winter and Summer.

Don't judge the number of announcements that will be made by the boxes in the new simulcast list at the moment ~ Crunchyroll seems to wait until the contract is signed before they add a box, so more (probably a lot more) will be added over this week and the next.

Sparrow Hotel is like 10min episodes i think so i don't even count that anime as one so they are showing 4. Most of the ones i want to see aren't on this list, and I know they still have a little bit of time left before these series start so I'm hoping for several more to be added soon.

So, three full length series into an announcement season that is likely to run to fifteen to twenty new full length titles, and you're "disappointed?"

Jump to premature conclusions, much?

Heck, if it wasn't for Aniplex leaking two titles and the desire to have announcements for Sakura-con, the announcements could easily have started tomorrow.

Agila you forgot to mention that Polar Bear Cafe and Naruto Spinoff also ended in Q1 2013, and those were both going on for a year. That kinda makes the continuing series even drier than usual. I know that quarterly and semi-annual series are the norm, but what shows that only last a year? Is this planned from the beginning or do they just end because they lose out in popularity in Japan? It does seem interesting to me if there is indeed a new yearly plan for anime series, it doesn't make that much sense to me from a business standpoint.

And those types of series normally start in Fall and Spring as well, since they normally not late-night anime but on in the morning before school/work or afternoons. Off the top of my head, the only longer running series that I recall starting in one of the two "mid" seasons was Beelzebub.

I know that its sometimes a half year series that gets extended once, since I recall a smaller number of Polar Bear episodes being originally announced.

I know that they sometimes announce that a series is planned to go longer (Beelzebub was announced as planned to run at least three quarters of a year, so even though it started "out of sync" with the half-year seasons, the stop/extend decision was in sync), but surely they could pull the plug if a series was failing too badly.

For longer series, it can be falling popularity that makes them cancel a series. Also for afternoon series that are based on a manga, a series can catch up to the manga. It used to be they'd just make a filler arc, but that was when anime had stronger ratings on afternoon TV, so it could take the ratings hit of a filler arc and still make money.

They seem to be still working out what to do instead of filler arcs, with some series going on a break until the manga gets ahead again, and others going with some form of reruns.

By picking up "My little sister can't be this cute" means they will eventually get license to show the first season.

They already have it as you can see http://www.crunchyroll.com/oreimo
And they have had it for over a year and a half now.

I have gotten used to being dissapointed at crunchyroll's new aquisitions and am looking forward to some upcoming shows like the second season of railgun but will expect to be dissapointed again the only reason I have been a member since the very begining is for shows like bleach, naruto, and fairy tail.

Really really hoping to see CR continue their trend of picking up PA Works shows and getting RDG Red Data Girl. PA Works never fails to deliver amazing shows and I hope I can watch it here on CR ;D

You don't really think there are only five announcements coming, do you?

They don't put up boxes when they are still in negotiations, or when they are sublicensing and waiting for the main licensee to sign their contract ... but there's obviously going to be a number of boxes added in the week ahead.

Just like there were in Winter ... which you say was a good display. They ended up with over twice as many series as the boxes they started with.

On the other hand, no, Crunchyroll is almost certainly not going to get Railgun S, since Index 1 and Railgun are already on Funimation, and Index 2 is coming to Funimation. The odds of anybody but Funimation getting Railgun S are very, very low. Similar with any noitaminA series, with only one or two coming to Crunchyroll in the past three years.
