I have been keeping up with it on about a weekly basis and I am not seeing anything good.

My post on the front page of this thread has an updated list of all the simulcasts.

Looks like Funimation will probably start Brothers Conflict and Danganronpa rather late since Brothers Conflict has already started in Japan and Danganronpa premiere tomorrow afternoon.

Hmmm, this could be a really late addition to Crunchyroll since it is a short on TV Tokyo: Yami Shibai

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-07-04/yami-shibai-horror-tv-anime-shorts-to-premiere-in-july

Looks like "7/14 26:15" for this. 6 minutes in length.

I wish Funi would fix or rebuild their vid player. It's so unstable unlike CR's vid player. I'll have the screen go black at times while watching anime on Funi if I'm moving to a different place in my house while watching it on my IPad. Sometimes, just one bard dropping from the signal screws it up and it makes me annoyed.

I can't wait for Funimation to reveal their new site design. I hope they change their player for the best! I think they are announcing/revealing/showcasing their new site design today or so because of the expo going on! If it's still crappy.... I'd loose all faith in Funimation...

Well, the current re-work is 'done'. Seems most of what they did was to remove the forums... The 'next redesign' is supposedly coming at the end of summer but we've heard that for years...

FUNimation.com Site Update
Tuesday July 2, 2013 at 07:31 pm by Rojas

As you may have noticed, there have been some ongoing site changes. We've had so many awesome fans joining our site daily, that we can barely keep up with how fast our memberships are growing. It's growing so fast, in fact, that we've decided to create a completely NEW site that will be launching at the end of summer. In the meantime, we'll be tweaking the current site in an effort to improve the video watching experience for our users. This includes taking the forums offline to lighten the site load a bit. Don't worry, all the data will remain intact, and you'll keep your forum post count. We'll have more information regarding how to retrieve your old posts soon.

Agreed. There are a bunch that look like they might be fun but Monogatari is the only one I expect to be able to sink my teeth into. I think the last couple seasons might've spoiled me.

Gave Daisuke a try - but really unimpressed with the sound and picture quality. It's as if they chewed the video uploading it.

You didn't mention whether that was from Nisemonogatari or Bakemonogatari, what episode, time stamp, etc., so I could do a direct comparison on my system, but this one is from about 9.5 minutes into episode 1 of Nisemonogatari:

I only took a portion of each screen to limit the total image size to the 640 x 480 maximum CR won't reduce after uploading.

Daisuki is on the left, CR on the right. Both 320 x 480 sections were taken from the full screen video (which for this system means a resolution of 1360 x 768 for the full frame).

It was episode 5 of Bakemonogatari, and it improves later on in the episode, hence why I think the video got chewed.

Daisuki isn't bad, it's just it's not Crunchyroll's 1080p (nor anywhere near). It'd be fine for older shows, but given how great Shaft's animation quality usually is, I dread to see what Monogatari 2 will be like.

I know. With the bummage that is the one month delay on the best show of the season, Monogatari SS...

Of the shows that have aired so far I will keep watching only Dog & Scissors and Senyuu so far. I hope Servant x Service is good (I like the 4-koma manga) and hope that Going Home Club and C3 are fun. Tekyuu 2 should be good and a few more shows I will surely try. But this season is not looking great for me overall aside from more Senjougahara, Hachikuji, Kanbaru, Nadeko, Hanekawa, Karen, Tsuhiki and of course the best girl, Shinobu!

My concern is that historically, Crunchyroll only had to worry about Funimation. They knew they'd never get the shows like Psycho Pass or Robotics Notes, but Aniplex US managing their own dubs (via third party) was meaning that Crunchyroll got the Aniplex shows. If Daisuki marks the beginning of a trend to block out Crunchyroll from the Aniplex section, whilst Crunchyroll will always get a lot of shows, they might get blocked out of the "premium shows". Whilst a month delaycast means it's on the site, most people will just watch it "elsewhere".

Having said that, they did get Attack on Titan.

To be fair Daisuki has been using Aniplex of America masters (which in general are lower quality than CR's encodes) and other poor source videos so they haven't had a series which allows them to show the maximum video quality. I think Bakemonogatari comes from a DVD master so it looks particularly bad - Nisemonogatari looks much better but it is still slightly lower quality than what CR has.

I'm hoping that they will encode their own video for Monogatari 2 instead of using an AoA master. If they use the right encoding settings and have a decent translator they could produce a nice quality stream. I don't like the fact that CR's stream is being delayed but at the very least Daisuki seems to be better option than Funimation and TAN (which isn't saying much).

That being said their progressive video quality system is terrible. It would be OK if it was the default and there was still an option to choose your own quality but there isn't...

To be fair, they never mentioned a date, or as far as I can recall, any specific time frame until recently ("this summer" was mentioned more recently). As with the release of their Roku app, however, I don't expect it to come off on schedule. I do expect they will complete it before the fall simulcast premieres.

We do have a precedent, which was Aniplex's relationship with NicoNico.com. Aniplex tends not to like to pull all their streaming eggs in one basket, which means that unless Daisuki became a real industry powerhouse, we would see their series split between Daisuki and CR. If the stream views from Daisuki are substantially less than what they would have expected from CR, they'll think twice about giving the site such a lengthy window of exclusivity.

I always thought Daisuki's strength would be their library of catalog titles, but for that to work, they need to actually have a large library of episodes available for viewing. Posting at a pace of about one episode per week after the initial 5 isn't going to cut it, and neither is having only a handful of titles, most of which are available elsewhere or have been. If Daisuki is still trundling along at the same pace by the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if they were a memory by this time next year.

They got Attack on Titan... and are showing it BEFORE Funimation. The month latecast is simply unacceptable. A week would have been OK but a month later is just plain cruel. But it shows me that Daisuki do NOT have confidence in their ability to offer a website and streaming that is better than Crunchyroll's. If they could compete on that level I would not mind using a superior service but using a service with ads, hard coded subtitles and wonky "auto performance enhancing" streaming that goes from 240 to 1080p and back down to 240 on a random basis, ugh...

Well, perhaps we can hope it will fail as hard as NicoNico did here. I just hope they don't continue to give the best titles to Daisuki and the scraps to Crunchyroll.

So far as you say I am not at all impressed with their catalog titles. I mean, Monogatari SS is coming on THIS SATURDAY so why not put up all of Bake and Nise so people can marathon them before the weekend? And add Neko Kuro? It is just asinine to expect people will want to watch 5 episodes of Bake now, 5 episodes of Nise and then start simulcasting SS which starts with Neko Shiro when they haven't seen the Tsubasa Cat or Tsubasa Family arcs of Bake and Neko Kuro yet. It boggles the mind, the people who are doing this DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MONOGATARI SERIES AT ALL is what this shows me. They simply see a set of series and episodes with no connection. They do not understand them AT ALL!
