who cares. in asian countries the same joke happens to caucasians, but they don't really take racism seriously; just as a joke.

FOB. Hm, I've never heard it used for asians though. If you seem like you haven't been in America for a while, no matter what your race or nationality, kids around my parts use it to describe them.

Every time I've heard it used it's usually directed towards asians...although recently I've heard it towards latinos...but I think that it's pretty much a regional thing, wherever you are, whatever the most prevalent immigrant group is....they're typically the one's called FOBs

Acronym for Fresh Off the Boat and nothing else.

It is the stereotype for typical Asians who recently migrated to a foreign country but mostly to the US; characterized by unfashionable clothes, bushy eyebrows?, bad english/thick accent, unfashionable hairstyle (bowlcuts, bangs), squat while smoking/eating, etc

A fob doesnt have to possess all the qualities above. For example, a fob could be a very fashionable individual but cannot speak English worth shit.. Take mega-pop star BoA. Whenever that girl tries to speak english its like WTF??? If she were to come to America and exchanged words with me I would definitely call her a fob behind her back.

you're all fobs.

fob commonly means fresh off the boat and usually refers to asian people.
whatever who cares?
its a word that people use. get used to it. its the same as cracker nigger, etc.

It does refer to asian people but only the ones who are from overseas and not born here. It means sort of like a person who hasn't been assimilated into the new culture yet in whatever country they are in.

Anyways, I don't find it disrespectful is used correctly. If It is used to mock or downgrade a person then I find it very disrespectful.

Never heard the term before, but hearing it now doesn't bother me at all.

For one thing, who the hell uses boats to get to the states these days?

Okay, totally missing the point. But I guess that's my point. It shouldn't be taken seriously, unlike, as kxiong pointed out, the person using it is apparently using it in a degrading manner. I know it can be used as a joke, because for one thing, asians also make jokes of caucasians in their own countries.

To be honest, I thought fob referred to the watch cover... guess I'm worse off than those who thought it meant fall out boy...

EDIT to below: teehee, I know. I wasn't taking the term seriously...

it doesn't mean literally off the boat
a fob can come off by plane.. it's figurative.. pertaining to how immigrants got to America back in the day.
