I just got into an argument with my roommate (who I hate, but I've already made a thread about that so I won't elaborate) and then had a bit of a mental breakdown. The argument started it off and then it morphed into an anxiety attack. I had to drive home from college at midnight because if I stayed in my room I probably would have done something that would get me kicked out of school. Right now I'm at home and trying to calm down and study, but I'm shaking with anger. Usually I've just been annoyed by him but today I'm not in a good mental state.

Driving on the freeway usually calms me down, and it did for a bit, but I'm really not in a good mood right now. I'm trying to study but I can't focus for more than a minute.

How do you calm down when you get upset? I could use some suggestions.

I find that reminiscing pleasant memories works wonders. Sleeping or a short nap of about 20 minutes should help. too. Trying to study is worthless if you're too upset for the information to sink in.

Sounds like you really need to change mates after this semester/quarter. I guess you got to have some patience. For me if anyone just starts going off on me for a reason or not I just try and diffuse the situation because arguing doesn't improve anything. Its really all to it for me at least just have a strong patience. If your mate just goes off on you for no reason I'd suggest you refrain from saying anything to him until he stops. But if it becomes a huge problem and you guys can't work it out... talk to your RA or advisory services because help can go long ways. Just watch an episode of your current or favorite show. Any episode of One Piece will help me forgive and forget negative stuff.

when some one reaches the end of there fuse with me, I cry not because i'm sad or upset because I want to beat the living shit out of somebody but my conscience wont let me because it knows that would be a battery and it doenst want to go to jail, but to make it seem creepy as hell I add a evil grin to it, trust me best way to deal with stress let it out, cry your face out scream and shout yell till you cant talk for a day, don't bottle up stress let it out and forget it

Well foe my sake and the other persons I have learned through my mistakes of anger, to go to a quiet place that is comfortable where I can be alone. I then lay down think the problem over and if I cant come to a conclusion I try tol forget about the whole situation and just let the problem or situation settle its self. Because whats done is done so why worry. I take deep breaths and also hold my breath and let it out slowly. If I know Im not at fault I tell my self "F- that" and I totally move on. If I know I was the one at fault I sleep it over and then apologized the very next day. If I know nothing will help I think up a way to get close to that person and say " hey I know we may disagree on alot and I apologize for what ever it is that you think I pissed you off about, but we have to find some way to get along and come to an agreement.....Lets start over."

If the person is like f-U I don't care than I go into blackout mode Because I hate when I try to make an effort and all the other person can do is hold a personal grudge or simple decide that they want to be hard headed even tho they care.

So true so true. I hate that too. Sometimes I forgive people and they don't care. Sometimes I admit mistakes and they still don't care. Other times I say sorry and they don't care. Where is the gratitude and understanding? At times like this I just put two words in my mind. Why? Hope! Just forget it for the time being and face it later or something. Sleep on things also helps.

Talk to someone who you love or enjoy being around, but the key is to not talk about the incident. Talk about something funny, good, or ask them how their day was.

It seems like you have a personal problem with your roommate that can't easily be resolved.
I can give you some tips and tricks about what I do myself when I get pissed off, but I fear that won't help you work towards a permanent solution.

All I can say is what some people above also suggest, try to get a change of dorms, or even roommate.
Talk to your dorm's manager about this and make absolutely clear you cannot live with your current roommate and that if you are forced to that you can't predict what might happen.

Last time I truly got mad it took my best friend to calm me down. First time I've heard someone say they were truly scared of me and what I might do for it to really set in. So I mean since then I just don't get mad anymore about stupid shit like I did back then. And I'm just not as stressed for the most part that since graduation I've learned who my true friends are all about five or so of them.
SO In closing words it really just helps to have someone you know you trust to be there.
