Those polls are not only stupid, but misleading as well...

Out of 16629 Dropped responses, only 909 dropped it (about 5%).

There were 26091 responses with the Kept poll, and 1461 of those kept it (again, roughly 5-6%) and not the same number of responders.

So what happened to the other 90%, did they keep it or drop it? There's no answer in the data.

So these polls are meaningless unless everyone participating ranks all 29 shows with answers indicating kept/dropped/didn't watch values... Picking one show to "vote" on which was the one you dropped doesn't have anything of statistical value in it.

should mention that taking the Internet seriously is a sin in and of itself.

well you must understand that otakus are otakus

Otakus are faction in every aspect related to 2d (includes gaming, anime, manga) and these said otakus *quote* will have x-nodal distribution to anything you ask ie: what is your favorite or which is the best.

take saimoe 2011 and 2012

fyi saimoe is a big tournament where people vote for the most moe girl of the year

in 2011 the "saki otaku faction" wanted a saki girl to win and the votes were in the thousands, but they lost due to the pairs of saki girls vs other saki so the bracket was off

in 2012 saki reappeared and the brackets were 1 to 2 saki girls in each bracket so the voting was around 200 300. so as you can see otakus are faction-ed into which ever anime they like. 2012 a saki girl on it btw

so extrapolating this to the polls you saw it just means that some of the factions kinda won out in which anime they wanted to be in that certain spot. it really doesn't jack

otaku means someone that takes their love of something too far by societies standards. You can be a car otaku, a band otaku, a sports otaku.

I sent this to crunchyroll...... Konnichiwa! My name is Masika and i love your website Crunchyroll but, If you have the time I would like to recommend an anime that you should put on the website.

The anime is called "Hataraku Maou-sama!" and it is a really good anime; with action, comedy, and also some romance it already has a few videos out and it is already ongoing so its kinda new. If you wanna check it out you should look on this website http://myanimelist.net/anime/15809/Hataraku_Maou-sama!

Arigatou it was nice talking to you and I hope you can put it on the website sometime soon!

P.S. If you need any financial aid in putting the anime on the website i can donate you guys some money thanks again!

your money is much better spent getting a star next to your name and going into the premium group, and THEN sending that letter of request.

Otaku... is japanese word whose meaning get's distorted through our western lens. It's a generic term that doesn't translate well. Fanatic doesn't do it justice, and 'Trekkie' is too specific. The Star Trek phenomenon is the closest comparison. A Star Trek 'Otaku' is the sort of Trekkie who wears their homemade StarFleet uniform to jury duty and lives a live style based around the thing they are fascinated with.

An Airforce Otaku hangs around airbases and tries to tune in on Military frequencies or just has a lot of model jet planes in their room.

A firearms Otaku would be a 'gun nut' with an encyclopedic knowledge of firearm types, makes, models, histories and of course ballistics.

In Japanese I am given to understand that Otaku is not a complement. It carries all the implied social devience that we in the west applied to Furries, Bronies, and Trekkies.

In the west, for my generation, there were a percentage of people who took Otaku as badge ultimate fandom and consider it a point of pride. An otaku of this sort would look down on a 'mere anime fan' as a sort of shallow dilettante.

Er... anyway. so... Otaku yeah... Just nerds. Extreme Nerds.
