Also finding it odd about the Lucifer and Satan thing. It's almost certainly due to haphazard pulling from sources without much familiarity and not paying much attention, but wouldn't it be interesting if it ended up being meaningful somehow?
Or, it was intentionally misleading, to throw us all off at first for the reveal in this ep that Maou isn't totally the bad guy, or at least not a heartless one (like Lucifer), and so now Emilia can get over her hate and then, well, we already knew where this was going after that, right?

Ah, but you see, Maou didn't do it... Lucifer did.

Saying that the highest leader of an organization is not responsible for his underlings doing what they were ordered to is absurd. Have you ever heard the saying "The buck stops here"? The show opens with his armies of monsters brutally murdering villagers. And suggesting that he didn't want the only person who could defeat him (a child, no less,) dead is also absurd. That's what I'm going to hate about this show despite liking it, she's going to fall in love with him even though he'll almost certainly never remotely make up for all his evil acts. I'm sure he'll inevitably do a heel-face turn and become "good," but that doesn't make up for anything he's done.

Not sure if anyone has covered it yet in this thread but there is the distinct possibility that Maou-sama was raised in a proverbial bubble. Much like Eli was breed into a hero her job was to destroy the demons, Maou's job as being raised in a demons realm was to be strong and ruthless and possibly kill mankind because if they don't mankind will eventually kill them.

Maou-sama never lived as a human so how can he understand a humans suffering? When Emi was pouring her heart out last episode Maou's reaction seemed callus to Emi but as far as he is concerned the idea of love and family are totally new to him(presumably) so he really never did "look at it like that."

But he did understand human suffering, he reveled in it. Besides, last I checked, demons weren't born tabula rasa and guiltless products of their environment. He was literally the devil of that world, so evil that said world's God actually made a divine intervention to put a stop to his evil. Emi was literally sent down from the heavens, delivered by an angel, to defeat him and save her world. Are you going to say it's just a zany coincidence that days after she was taken by the church, her home village was razed and father murdered by Maou's forces? That's a pretty unlikely coincidence. Becoming essentially human doesn't undo any past acts.

the anime can deus ex machina the demon king:

he was raised along as a child during the same time yuusha is a child they are the same age. and the work was done by demon kings father blah blah blabh. gets rid of most sins(?)

of course one dad killing another isn't the best excuse it lessens the sin in a way that if romance does develop i'd be most welcome

Sounds like you have a ardent aversion to the possibility that it isn't so cut and dry. That's too bad, seeing as the anime is basically throwing that in your face, Maou has no idea what it's like to be human and when he becomes one he starts to empathize with them.

This is the funniest show for me this season! And yet it manages to maintain a really compelling plot as well as some mystery.

I too found the split of Satan into 4 a really curious concept: aspects of devilishness? It's commonly done in Hinduism with God taking on different forms to manifest different aspects of the Divine (including even negative traits).

I really like the chemistry between Emilia and the Dark Lord so I can't help but root for them despite the horrific revelations from her perspective. You can still feel how much hatred she bears towards him even in this last episode (although realistically based on her flashback she would have cut him down the moment she recognised him without a care about getting back: very short series length there though).

And I definitely agree with tommythecat that his incarnation in Ente Isla (I believe his introduction in ep. 1 ran along the lines of "all that is cruel and evil") and his incarnation as a teenage human boy on Earth totally justify a radical change in personality: they lost their powers and their attitudes. Even Emilia: I doubt she went around tripping up and getting all weepy in her incarnation of half-angel Saviour of Mankind. Realistically it is kinda difficult to balance the need for comedy against the fairly weighty storyline that is the backdrop: we're probably seriously over-thinking the whole thing

wish they would've showed the punch when Maou decked Lucifer. was looking pretty epic there for a second, then just scene change.

THIS! FREAKING! EPISODE!

This episode is so good! Those action sequences were epic! The first half was very crazy with shit-going-real everywhere! And still they managed to bring the comedy throughout the episode! White Fox has made one of the best episodes this season.

Another epic episode. That language the new characters are speaking was like jigsaw puzzle to me.

This series is a lot better than I expected it to be. turns a few tropes on their ear and gives others new life. Emilia's history with Maou is the best excuse for a 'tsundere' that I've seen yet.

and this epsisode rocks. all of all my favourite moments (there were a lot this ep) I have to say that.

was my favourite favourite. the delivery on that moment was priceless.
