This show is just plain nuts!

One of the things that I'm still finding kind of weird is how Saeki-san seems to now like Kasuga. I mean, shouldn't she think he's a pervert or something after that incident in the library (at the end of ep 2) where he buried his face in her chest?!? I mean, that's not a normal thing for a student to do that to another student, and I'm still left wondering why Saeki-san still hasn't said anything about that. It's almost like that incident never happened.

Also, wow... Nakamura-san must be super strong...

The tsuppari-sumo hirate technique is basically to slap your opponent out of the dohyo/ring and it works very well. Believe me, a 100-300kg man slapping you in the face repeatedly as hard as he can hurts and if you are not of a similar mass and build you will probably have a broken jaw and/or neck! Perhaps Nakamura-san should be on the high school sumo team...

So basically, he got bitch-slapped.

When he buried his face in her chest it was because Nakamura pushed his face there. It still embarrassed Saeki (perhaps especially because she likes him and therefore liked it but a nice girl wouldn't say so in that circumstance) but I think she recognizes it more as an accident--not something he intentionally did.

Yeah, I remember Nakamura's push from behind, but the thing is, he stopped well before his face got buried in her chest. And it didn't seem like he was stumbling to hold his balance at all, so to me, when I first saw it, I thought he let his "desires" or whatever get the better of him and he decided to let his face plop on her chest on purpose. And after re-watching that scene just now, I still have a hard time saying it was an accident, it's certainly possible though... either way, I guess it's not important anymore, and I'll be interested to see how their "date" turns out.

Think back to the earlier episodes - can it not be said that Saeki glanced back at Kasuga those times when he was looking at her? Not everything is as it seems in this show.

Yeah, I think I remember her glances, but for me, unless she actually smiles or says something to him, I find it difficult to interpret what those glances mean, since to me, they could mean anything. But with the way the last ep went, I think it's a safe assumption now to say that her glances were indications that she kinda likes him.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that by the end of this show, everyone will be involved in doing something dark, even Saeki, and it won't have a happy ending.

Yeah, that's the feeling I'm getting too... but I still like happy endings regardless, lol, so I'll be rooting for that, or at least a semi-happy ending. xD

Or wrestling team. O_O

What Kasuga is wearing on their date is even more odd.

Odd, and disgusting! xP I get the feeling too he still hasn't at least washed her gym clothes, which to me, makes it even sicker.

This show is pretty ridiculous. Nakamura might be one of the most sadistic characters I've ever seen. I'm really interested in seeing the extent in which she pushes Kasuga into his darker desires. If things keep building up like this, she'll definitely make a fine deviant out of him.

And poor, poor Saeki. I get the feeling that her involvement in this is not going to be pretty.

True, also I'm quite sure Saeki will find out about her gymclothes.
Going to be a sad moment for Kasuga.

I just get the feeling that everything is going to go fine on the date until the very end. I honestly can't wait to see what happens.

I know what you mean, Kasuga and Nakamura barely look like the actors mentioned in the photo. Although, the anime is already shot in live-action, I think retroscoping does a better job in displaying the story. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they were to make a live action drama of this story in the future.

I agree. Rotoscoping allows them to emphasize or downplay certain elements, such as facial expressions, in way similar to conventional animation. The reason why I personally believe rotoscoping here works better than conventional animation is because it also gives it an added depth of realism, because these characters look and feel real.

Its so interesting reading this thread and seeing the viewpoints, speculations, and misconceptions of the folks who aren't already familiar with the story. It is a bit sad though because I can't really discuss anything, since talking about anything could spoil things.

I personally haven't read the manga so I'm assuming that there's still elements of the characters and their backgrounds within the story that we won't learn until it progresses further (Nakamura in particular interests me greatly). Usually curiosity would get the better of me and I'd right away go and read the manga before continuing with the anime, but I like this one enough to want to keep myself in suspense as I wait for the next episode every week.

And if you'd like to discuss the manga, I'm sure there's a thread somewhere in the manga section. Or, if there isn't, you could make one.

Yeah this entire story is about peeling back the layers of who these people are, so you will continuously be learning more about the characters and what makes them tick as the story progresses. Its not one of those stories where the characters are laid bare in full at the beginning just to set up the plot, rather the plot revolves around revealing the characters.

Its just interesting reading stuff from the viewpoints of people who are experiencing it fresh, especially knowing that there are many who make snap judgements based on first impressions of characters and situations in anime. So it will be interesting seeing how people react and change their impressions as the show continues.

Which reminds me that I need to catch up watching this, as I haven't had much time for anime lately, so that I can know where everyone is at if I wish to talk about it. Overall I like the anime a lot, and think that the rotoscoping doesn't hurt the story at all, and kind of helps with the atmosphere. My only problem with their choice of rotoscoping is that the characters are based on obviously older actors. It wouldn't be so bad if the story was set in late highschool ages, but these kids are supposed to be middle schoolers. It wouldn't be so bad to change them to be highschoolers in the anime except for (minor spoiler)

I expected as much. And it's what I like so much about the show so far. Aside from what Kasuga thinks about and how he interacts with the other characters, we really don't know much about them, thus why I've been hesitant to put labels on any of them. And that's exactly why it's so hard for me to stave off my desire to read the manga; I really want to know what's making Nakamura tick.

And dat spoiler... makes me very, very excited.

Just a heads up but I think there's no episode 5 this week. The episode is taking a one week break. Idk the exact reason since I haven't found a legit source yet but I believe it might be something related episode 5 moving being aired from AT-X rather than Animax starting next week.

Live-action Yamada is even cooler than rotoscope Yamada.
