I don't think Yui is acting out of pity, but I also think Hikki's default position in any situation would be to push her away if he felt like she was getting too close. It makes sense for him to be defensive to a fault from what we've seen.

He doesn't mind Yukino since they're practically cut from the same cloth; he can trust that she'll stay distant of her own volition and not to get closer to him than he'd like. But Yui is definitely a threat from his point of view.

Imho.

That's a valid perspective as well.

Yea, you summed it up nicely here.

eh even if Yui and Hikki get together i dont feel it could last well, they have both core different personalities. Hikki is the loner who would rather sit at the back of the school feel the breeze and eat sandwiches than have a discussion with another human being. On the flip side you have Yui who cares about what EVERYONE thinks of her. I mean my main problem is i cant see any reason for a girl like Yui to like a guy like Hikki and if the only reason is cause he saved her dog then that just feels like a debt of gratitude she has rather than a crush.

I don't really think she does. I think she's just looking everywhere for just one person to just look just at her.

It's like she's secretly Dying, except emotionally (can't find a trope for that).

Desperately Craves Affection might be closer to the mark. Partially.

I do agree that currently they'd be pretty terrible together, but if something happens to jar Hikki's world view I could see it happening. It couldn't just be sympathy though, something would have to hit him emotionally. Hard.

I liked this show to start with, and I'm liking it more and more. I'm also like reading what everyone has to say about it. But I don't have anything more of my own to add just yet.

This show has been interesting for me so far because, in many ways, I'm much like Hikki. I completely understand why he said what he said to Yuri at the end of episode 5 and I feel that I would've probably done something similar. When you're someone that has no real friends you don't want someone's sympathy, nor do you want someone to be nice just for the sake of being nice. You want a real friendship, but what he's developed so far with the other characters is about as fake as it can get. They associate in school, but outside of that they might as well be complete strangers aside from when they bump into one another.

Really looking forward to seeing how the series progresses.

I actually think Yui is the same as Hikki, except she's just too much of the "nice girl", and she's not the type to be a loner, so she just goes with the flow and lets everyone walk all over her. she secretly wants someone to like her for who she is, and she found that in Hikki.

at least that's what I think, because that's how I was and she reminds me a lot of myself.

Possibly. I'm also looking at this through my own personal experience lens so I'm not unbiased either.

Edit: I'd also add Extreme Doormat to Yui's resume, at least so far. I think her character arc will be overcoming that.

One of my favorite series of the season now along with Attack on Titan, Suisei no Gargantia, Hataraku Maou-sama!, and Attack on Titan. For some reason, I just love the character interactions between the three main characters especially in the latest episode.

Oh and this was funny from the latest episode:

She better make an reappearance again later on.

I think that we share the same point of wiev. Also everytime I watch anime I put myself in protagonsts shoes and try to understand his thinking, reasoning motives and also what would I do in his position. I always try to see the message that creators wanted to pass on audience. Also it's quite interesting observe peoples personalities and the way they live and thing especially from psychologilcal point of wiev . . .
Anyhow this show amuses me and I kinda like it. I'm curious what is going to happen in the next episode. As someone said before - hope that Yukonos sister we'll have even more screen time

Episode 6 was definitely a fun one to watch, every episode makes me like the show more and more.

Or i could simply be over analyzing the episode.
