I could understand the argument of this just being a filler ep and that it didn't progress the story at all but the rest just sounds like too much fanboying honestly. Its only the second ep. To make such extreme claims and damning this season just makes no sense in my opinion.

I enjoyed the episode. Do i wish the story could have progressed? Absolutely. Am I gonna blow this show off and say its not on par with season 1 because it decided to have a random and fun episode? Absolutely not. To do that would be a dumb and hasty decision to make based only on ONE episodes difference.

I understand your frustrations as it feels like we've missed character development and from what I hear this episode was adapted from a drama CD as a side story. Though it's purpose is to probably prepare you for the fact that Kyousuke isn't really his "loves boring life" self anymore it's probably meant to jump start other things but that would be spoilers so, ya. The poor flow of the episode coupled with the strange leaps in characters personalities leaves this episode very sporadic and unfocused... hopefully next week we will get back on track because if it continues to go off the rails like this one I'll be a sad panda.

Also a lot of the things you mention like Kyousuke liking Ayase, are pretty clear, though not stated outright, in the LN but were always pretty vague in the anime. Inner monologue's by Kyousuke in the LN give away a lot of details that the anime sorta glosses over.

I really enjoyed the episode, thought it was very funny. It didn't advance stuff much but still, it was very entertaining. The game, the lines, the yandere, all hilarious stuff. No Kuroneko...

So far I know just two episodes but I do agree so far it doesn't feel as good as season one. I will watch it until the end but at this point my buy/no-buy decision is sitting on no-buy.

I just have such HIGH hopes for this show. I was practically BEGGING for a 2nd season for the past 3 years and when you worship an anime so high, the harder the fall will be. It's just for the 3 years, there hasn't been a single anime that I liked, I usually hated them because they were pretentious, unclever, cliched, or wasted my time, and when oreimo came out, that changed everything, it was so clever. So I just have such high expectations for this show which makes the fall so much greater, but I'm SURE it can't get worse than this. I'm SURE this show will bounce back, But it's just episode 1 was kind of disappointing, and I had to wait a whole week for episode 2 to come, wondering what it would be and it was just....But have no fear, soon oreimo will turn around and become the masterful god of anime it once was. Rising above all those other animes that I hated so much.

But this ISN'T like any other crap anime, this is a MASTERPIECE you are dealing with. You can't just carelessly show off filler so meaninglessly like that. With such a legendary cast of characters, it's alot like the Breaking bad of Anime, and a show that superior and excellent should be handled with quality and care. And I just KNOW that it's gonna get better, Always save the best for last. After all, the good news is, if they don't get everything in the Light Novel in season 2, that means there will be a season 3.

I think episode 2 is rather brilliant. And awfully funny. More interesting, really than episode 1. I don't care that things didn't advance things much or that Kyousuke wasn't himself (I put that down to the addictive power of Love Touch), and for me it was a part of what made the episode so funny. There are still enough episodes for that to happen.

Exactly. There was a lot of funny stuff in the episode, and if you can't sit back and just enjoy it, I don't know what to tell you.

Well for one thing, I thought the jokes were too slow paced and stale. This show is genius, even the COMEDY is genius. From what I remember, most of the jokes came from their obsession with the virtual girlfriend, but there was nothing really all that clever, Ayase just gets mad at him and Kyousuke acts like a fool. As I said, Episode 9 and 10 in season 1 were also fillers but it was funny, this episode was just creepy, but that may be my opinion, but it felt like nothing was happening and the jokes were just stale and not well-thought out.

What story? It's a character driven series. I'm sure most people have an idea of how they want it to end but there is no clear plot. The entertainment and the comedy is purely from the character interactions happening with no clear sequence of events.

Episode 2 - Synopsis/Analysis

I thought it was a very sound episode. It was limited in scope with the number of characters, but I don't think it was any less clever or meta than the previous season.

There is nothing wrong with not liking an episode, they can't all be zingers. Oreimo is one of my top 5 shows and even I thought the last episode was pretty weak and full of narrative inconsistencies.

Do you have the end cards from season 1? There is a Maschera theme ending and it has Kirino and Kuroneko in black/white gothic dresses.
