Seriously, I hate the whole excuse thing from the author that this is not the ending he wanted. He had written that, so deal with it. He had decided to change the direction of the story as the publisher wished, so don't make excuse after what had been done.

It is not just me, many people agree that the romantic relationship of Kyosuke and Kirino is poorly written. It should have been started earlier, more hints were given, instead of coming out of nowhere in the last volume. The ending can't not be better than this.

I agree, twintiger. The author can shoulda/woulda,/coulda all day long, but ultimately I have to deal with a work as presented to me on the screen.

Take Evangelion as an example. Anno can say that it ended the way it did because he blew the budget and he was in a terrible state of mind, but that doesn't make what appeared on the screen make any more sense than it did.

It sucks that Fushimi was a victim of executive meddling, assuming that's the case, but we got what we got. If he wants to produce an Alternate, Good, or True End somehow then great. Until then this is the True Canon Word of God Ending and that's just the way it is.

Although I must admit, a true ending would be nice to clear up everyone's confusion/arguments.

On an unrelated note, my premium expires tomorrow, makes me sad, although I'm glad I got to finish this series first!

About this, I only watched the anime, what was the Meruru ring scene about? Did it hold much significance in advancing the story?

Its kind of ironic that the author ended up disappointing everyone, wincest and non-wincest shippers alike. >.>

More so that he seems to have no intention of doing anything else to give it more closure either. The 10 years later side story is pretty irksome in that it pointedly doesn't do or say anything about what eventually happened. Why even bother then? Especially if you know how your fan base is reacting to your finale.

In the end, the series succeeded on the strength of its supporting cast and failed on the weakness of its storytelling and main characters.

He really should have pulled a Shuffle! ;p

It kind of pulled a Mirai Nikki on me. Great show, but man that ending.
