That being said, season 1 is definitely worth owning as a stand alone product. With all the good season 2 has, the bad is just too much to overcome for me and would ruin an otherwise great first season.

I still wish there was a legitimate arc for Ayase in this series

Very unfortunate... people find out about it and the community gets pissed. Nobody wants an ending that isn't true to the Author's intentions.

After watching episodes 14-16 I feel like, as a fan, I've been duped, played. I don't mind the male winding up in a situation different than I wanted as most of these harem shows are written where I never can pick the heir apparent. And I don't mind if the storyline gets pervy. The persistent twists, turns, boundary testing are part of keeping a series somewhat intriguing. But I felt cheated watching the ending of these last 3 episodes, OAV's or whatever the proper anime labels are. With the exceptions of answering the outcomes of certain pairings I may have mentally formulated from watching Seasons 1 & 2 it guiles me no end to have the series end as a launch point for, oh no, another possible future season of banality with cutesy, albeit very, very annoying Kirino instead of providing closure for all concerned.

v I agree with you. I thought Ayase would have been the most logical too with Goko Ruri in the running as a close second.

I think the majority of us who hate the ending really wouldn't have minded any girl as long as it wasn't Kirino. I'm not sure if I speak for everyone who is displeased with a Kirino ending, but despite me being a fan of Ayase, and even though an Ayase ending would have made me the happiest, I really would have felt more than satisfied having a Kuroneko or Manami ending. Not Saori or Kanako for the anime though, I think both of them are wonderful characters, but in the anime they got very little development and Kyousuke time, so if they ended the anime on one of them it would feel out of no where. This is just one of those animes where you can pretty much like every girl even if she isn't your favorite, Kirino is the exception to that though.

I've just about ranted on every social network about the crap ending. The author could have ended on a nice note but he went with the stupid half-assed incest ending. I was disgusted from the first OVA episode but I thought it would turn around by the end. I was dead wrong and it continued to get worse but Manami redeemed herself in the end at least. Forget it man. Team Kuroneko!!

****After watching the final 3 OVA's I have to say I liked the ending. It's the ending that I knew was coming(the name of the anime pretty much started that build up) but wasn't sure if they would ACTUALLY do it or how they would pull it off.

****I REALLY liked how Manami spelled things out for them, throwing the moral issues and whats socially accepted in their faces and seeing how they would react to it( the cat fight was unexpected but a nice touch).

****So given that he picked Kirino, I think they did a good job in the path leading to her( that is part of what made this series cool to me. The alternate endings of season 1 and season2 being a path of one of them). I would, however, also like to see alternate path in which he picks the other girls and how Kirino reacts to those choices.

****I think they are in for a very rough road as a couple. Kirino just starting HS, she will do a lot of growing up then and maybe see Manami's words with more of a grown up perspective in the coming years. Her brother on the other hand seems to not care about any outside logic or influence and is just all "Kirino Kirino Kirino" no matter what.

**** Funny how everything is according to Kirino's terms and he just goes a long with it.

Pretty much this--The fact that Kyousuke kept pursuing a better relationship with Kirino in the first place was always a bit strange. I mean, it kind of had to be there as it was the crux of the story, but I always thought it was meant to be kind of comedic crux nonetheless. It doesn't matter which of the ships you sailed on, as xxJing here has pointed out, but the fact that Kyousuke would screw up his relationship with three other great characters in order to preserve a *fake* relationship with a mean-spirited and selfish one is pretty messed up. Ironically enough, Kirino pretty much spelled that exact point out right after the Manami showdown but "WHATEVER" apparently.

I know it's probably not the final intent of the author, (although its hard to say considering the ambiguity of japanese,) but I think the best way to think of this ending (at least for me) is this.

Kirino got broken (so to speak,[brocon]) by Minami's comment's at a young age partly due to her innocence, (referenced by Kirino's self recording,) and partly due to her competitive nature (clearly demonstrated by her mocking Manami prior to their "last boss" encounter).

Kyousuke had been trying to help his sister with her problems from the get-go, so in the end i like to think of it as him just burning all those bridges in an attempt to help her realize her childhood dream (an idea i think is supported by his quick agreement to her temporary relationship proposal). A kind of ultimate sacrifice for the sake of family (even kirino questions why he would go so far as to leave himself nothing; a turn that almost implies that she knew he was acting that way for her sake alone [she even calls herself selfish]).

Again it goes without saying that i don't know the author's true intent but, at least for me, this is a much more satisfying way to think of the ending (he became the incredible brother Kirino though of him as). Even if it went uncomfortably far.. lol.

Or maybe he (author) was winsest from the start.
idk so ima think of it this wai
i hope this idea helps some others accept this ending more too.

(some thoughts hijacked from frogfrogfrogfrog) ['cuz they made total sense to me]

I'm prefacing this by saying that Kirino and Ayase we're probably my two least favorite characters in this anime and Kuroneko was one of my favorites, however the only two girls that made any remote sense for Kyosuke to choose were Kirino and Ayase.

A lot of people spend there time focusing on who their favorite girls are from the show as if they were inserting themselves into the main characters shoes. This works in a lot of harem anime due to the main character being a non-persona meant to be a watchers insert, but not so here. If anybody spends time actually looking at Kyosuke's reactions to the girls, while he obviously likes them all, he treats almost all of them as bro's with very little in the way of active attraction.

This includes Kuroneko with whom it seems he goes out with mainly to have a girlfriend. He seems more in love with the idea of having a cute girlfriend than being in love with Kuroneko. Now I almost certainly think he loves Kuroneko but only in the way one loves their closest friends.

The two exceptions to this rule in the anime we're pretty much Ayase and Kirino, both of whom it seemed that Kyosuke seemed to have a real attraction for and not just a camaraderie with(Note that this is from the anime perspective, I've only read part of the first LN so I can't comment on Kyosuke's perspective from there.)
