He has said in interviews thus far:

- He was under a lot of pressure to finish the ending due to the anime airing schedule.

- He always planned on Kyo x Kirino but didn't begin to figure out how to do it until after season 1 aired.

- The ending was inspired by the cousins / not blood related ending of the PSP game's Kirino route, but he couldn't use that twist in the LN / Anime as he felt it would be a cope out that late in the story. Which he said prevented him from writing a 100% clear conclusion as a result. He wanted to reward Kirino's feelings, but ran into the obvious barrier of wincest but it was too late go back on it. By that point, the series was too popular and Kirino was a poster girl for the publisher / studio. So there was no way they were going to let him take what had become a popular main stream series and steer it into Koi Kaze territory.

So like I said, its not great writing, but its also not entirely his fault either. He wrote himself into a corner and couldn't find a way out of it that wouldn't tick someone off. Be it his publisher, studio or the fans.

Asah - He rejected the confessions of multiple girls. Only with one did he seem truly disturbed. Im a faithful hand of the S.S. Ruri but, you should still see that the hardest refusal for him was her. One's love shows through your emotions.

to renec - what i said before about the ambiguity of japanese was directed at the authors comments. My point it that just because he said he wanted a Kyou x Kirino ending dosn't nessicarliy imply an incest ending, but perhaps a coming to terms sort of idea.

maybe i am just geared to think this way because i have an actual imouto... who knows.

Ruri was the only one he actually went out with though, so of course it was the hardest. Like I said he cares for all the girls and doesn't want to hurt them, and Ruri was the most prone to getting hurt, after all she had sacrificed so much for him and he knew his rejection would hurt her the hardest. It doesn't mean that he actually loved her the most, but I'm damn sure he realizes how much she loved him.

I'm completely content with the ending after learning the author's true intent. So long as I know what HE himself intended, that's enough for me personally. I'm just happy it's not what was shown on the anime. They messed up those last scenes badly, sending everyone into confusion... Not cool whoever was in charge of this anime, not cool.

WelI, I respect your opinion, however i think you (like me) would think differently if you had a imouto of your own.

That is why, after watching the OreImo 2 OVAs and having my heart hit with a truck of feels, I'm proud to announce that my final verdict for the entire OreImo series is...

A 10 OUT OF 10. A TRUE MASTERPIECE.

The entire OreImo series also gets my BADASS SEAL OF APPROVAL!

you are still assuming his dedication to kirino is due to romantic feelings, my arguement is just that he could act that way because of an extremely platonic love.

but i must agree 10/10 no matter the ending i love this story

Yeah.... that wasn't just "pretty painful" for me. The last three episodes made me happier than I've ever been while watching Oreimo, then the last 5 minutes.... tore out my heart and shot it into the sun. With a bazooka.

I really was just left angry and confused about the ending. The more I think about it, the more I suppose it was a good and fitting ending, but they could've made it a much happier and not-so-bittersweet ending. The re-watch value of the show has certainly gone down for me due to the extreme pain that will follow.

You have no idea how shocked I was when it got revealed what Kirino said to Kyousuke in his ear. I was so angry and shocked/sad at the same time. You can't just go back to normal just like that, thats not how love works!
