She would be defenseless because she can't transform underground. She would get crushed.

I kinda thought this was the reason, but I would have thought she'd be strong enough to break through it when transforming, but I guess not :/

That episode was pretty awesome. I have to say that Armin has come a long way. I HATED him at first, but he really has become the man. I mean he was able to trick Annie!

Armin's plan would have worked if she didn't put on that damn ring.

And talk about eerie when she started to laugh.....

Next episode should be sick.

Oh, this is a lot different from what I thought haha. This makes more sense.

I thought it had something to do with her not being able to transform in the dark or something.

Okay, I was blindsided by their plot for Annie, although I shouldn't have been.

Only other surprise here was that she chose to transform in the middle of the city. Was not expecting that.

Crazy that there are only 2 episodes left now...

Well, in that case, she could have just stayed in her human form. That can't be the reason, not to mention she's probably strong enough to get out of that rubble and stuff that would fall on her if she did transform. It also can't be that she can't transform because it'd be dark, because she can still stay in her human form. There has to be something else.

Sorry, I read the manga. It is simply because she can't effectively transform underground. This isn't a spoiler or anything though. It is the same reason Eren was forced to sleep in the basement of the castle when he was with the Survey Corps. Levi explicitly states the reason why he has to sleep there is in case he transforms in his sleep, they can contain him (if you are interested, this is in episode 15 at around 5:25). So if Annie were to go down their, she could not transform and then they would be able to retrain her and capture her.

I know that episode 23 was huge, but there's a large elephant in the room and something needs to be said.

Manga people, do not answer this, because you already know what happens. Ignore this comment entirely.

In the preview for the next episode, it shows Levi with several armed men surrounding Commander Erwin in the middle of the street, basically meaning, it's most likely true that one of them is a traitor. My gut feeling tells me it's Erwin, but I can't count Levi out either only because I don't know for sure who's turning on who and why.

Regardless of who turns on who, this is a major development beyond Annie being the female titan (which, let's be honest here; everyone knew she was the titan, even if we didn't want her to be it). Does anyone who has NOT read the manga have any thoughts on this?

So, I have spent the last hour or so analyzing Annie's character, and I believe I can now deduce what kind of person she is. I will try to keep this manga-spoiler free.

On another note. I have been thinking about the ending of episode 23 with Annie laughing. Her behavior changes after Mikasa explicitly states that they know she is the Female Titan. Annie knows she is now unable live safely inside the walls and has nowhere to go. She is pretty much fucked now and she knows it. The writers could have executed it better though. In the anime, she comes off as simply psycho.

Hmmm. Someone is in it for their personal goals but unknowingly lets outside factors influence her decisions.

From my understanding, the moment Armin pulled her over in a dark alley away from everyone else she already knew what was up. The ring is her father's, by the way, and her putting it on hints at two things. She's a daddy's boy, to put it simply, and the other is that she knew she was already found out and put it on in the inevitability that she was captured.

My understanding was that both sides didn't know with 100% certainty that the other side was against them (Armin suspecting Annie was the Female Titan and Annie suspecting they knew she was the titan). I say this because she was asking a lot of questions when Armin was asking for her help. She also said no to Armin at first, but when he mentioned the fact that Eren would die, she gave it some thought. So I saw her putting on the ring as showing she was suspicious, but could not be sure. As they were walking, she started questioning them more, because she was getting more and more suspicious of them since no one was around. Once they got to the tunnel, she would not go down because if her suspicions were correct, she would be defenseless.

I friggen knew that she was the Titan! All the blond women were either dead or shown completely (Except Annie) and it seemed pretty obvious to me. Anyway, I still don't get this, was Eren in the plan or something? And was everyone else also in or what? This episode confused me... >_> And sorry if I made no sense.
