The military probably didn't see the need to develop more powerful weapons since maintaining the wall was their strategy.

Then what's the point of having a recon unit? If they were intent on confining themselves within the walls, which is absurd, than a recon unit would just be a waste of resources, don't you think?

Well they have cannons but you'll find out why nothing is really fully effective except for the swords. They will probably cover that during the training episode.

Haha, much use those cannons were in that last episode. I'm just saying, their military was utterly useless against the titans, all of them, not just the uber-powerful armored bastard. They should have like some type of projectile weapons, or even utilize those stupid wire things for more than just mobility and use it to ensnare and immobilize the titans.

Your gripes about their weaponry was completely explained in the scene when the Recon unit returns utterly defeated. They dont have any real means to combat the titans besides the defense the wall brings them. Its pretty safe to assume that the general population hasnt encountered a titan in their lifetime and they dont feel any real threat from them. There was a part where a man complained about their tax money going to waste, meaning that the general consensus of the people is that "in the safety of these walls why should we waste resources on fighting the titans or learning about them.

Furthermore when Eren and Mikasa get to the center of the city its and the soldiers fill like their food is being wasted on refugees; it shows that military is nothing more than an empty institution that doesn't recognize its own purpose.

Some of my thoughts are alil jumbled but the point is they dont even have electricity just because they built unrealistically high walls doesnt mean they have advanced weapons. the Egyptians built the pyramids, they didnt have modern weapons.

Wait for one of the upcoming episodes. You will see them getting a real weapon to fight against the titans.

I've been wondering about those walls... So speculation follows, not actual spoilers...

Those are huge walls, and they cover a very large area, enclosing thousands of people and enough arable land to grow crops to support that population, plus animals. There doesn't seem to be all that much tech, some cannons. No powered vehicles to be seen in the fields, crops being done with hand tools, probably the animals. And the boats were guided by cable, I couldn't see how they were powered, but they were very slow, so whatever was doing it wasn't very advanced, but it was strong enough to move very heavy loads.

So, it would have taken a very long time to erect those walls with that level of advancement, if they did it themselves. If there were already titans roaming about when the walls started, they would have gotten within the walls, and would have killed everyone off working on them before they could be finished. So the titans must not have been around before the walls, or at least not very many of them... This sort of implies that someone knew to plan the walls before there were titans, which means they were warned somehow, somewhere, or someone has a very dark secret about their origin locally which is being kept from the general population... Or possibly there is an enemy country in a similar situation, also with walls, that somehow created the titans by experimenting on criminals or at least volunteers (alchemy?) to make WMDs against their already-walled enemy. But then again, if there was another enemy country, you'd think that there would be at least some war stories about their existence.

Anyway, here's the part where you can tell me if I'm over-thinking it...

I'm not talking about a assault rifles and nukes... but something that would level the playing field, just a bit. Seriously, they had a squad of 'trained' soldiers combat, what seemed to be, a single ordinary titan and were utterly defeated. Considering they are able to build those boats, those wire devices for mobility, and cannons, they should've been able to develop something that would prove effective against the titans, rather than their draconian tactics- overpowering through sheer numbers (demonstrably futile). My thought would be, develop a device to ensnare and immobilize, or atleast hinder the giants movements, with the wire tech, or come on guys, composite bows? crossbows? hand cannons? POISON?! Haha, come on now. The walls made them complacent. Their inability to create effective weapons is not due to a lack of technology. Possibly a scarcity of resources, though not apparent. Just saying man... these guys had it coming.

Ep 2
I sort of like it so far.
I wish they would've been creative with the design of those Titans. Making them look human is so boring.
The titans from FFXIII are cool. Not saying they should've copied them, but at least make them look cool.

making them look like humans is more fear inducing imo also the ones that are bigger are especially grotesque which is what (i think ) they were going for

I like the show and all, but the story kind of seems over zealous.

For one, Titans took over the entire world, yet they have absolutely no knowledge of how titans are made etc. That doesn't seem possible at all. Also I can't see how these titans can overpower advance weaponry from 2000 years from now. Even if they have weak points and are super strong I can't see lasers( or gundams or whatever the hell you can imagine) and other future things failing against them.

Another concern is that the manga is way too long for the anime. I don't see them killing every titan in the world in the span of13-25 episodes (however long the story is), which may give into a half-assed ending.

It would make more sense if the titans WERE like the titans from FFXIII because then they can use super powers, but then humanity and their whole society would have been one shotted easily lol. IMO the titans AND the human should be x1000 more powerful if its 2,000 years from now.

I like the show though, mainly because of the action and mystery.

at first I was gonna say ummm wtf where are you gettin 2000 years in the future out of this?

Cause like...considering how over powering the titans are, it'll take a long while for humanity to advance technologically with these monsters always hunting them down.

and like, it's sort of hard to learn about something that can kill you like an ant. Once you learn something it'll probably kill you before you can get away.

Then I saw your status say you're just trollin.

to be honest eren whinning the whole first episode makes sense he was dreaming about the impending titan attack so its understandable that he'd be pissed when he sees the guard drinking on the job just wish the guard would have had a oh crap the kid was right when the titans actually attacked
