You may be on to something.

But have you answered the question, Ychromo?
I want to see your opinion.

Where are my manners? Of course I should answer the question before debating on why it still exists. I apologize for my imprudence.

I'm a bit of a sucker for despair in my fiction, and I must say that both series were excellent in that regard. I will definitely say that I was far more impressed with Sword Art Online's fantastic world and interesting premise -- one that intrigued me a bit more than Attack on Titan. However, while SAO spent its time building the world and the story's concept, AoT spent the time building its characters and emotional depth. As a result, when the bomb drops at the end of the first episodes, Attack on Titan was much more affective of the way I felt -- which is a big reason I watch anime. So to answer the question: Attack on Titan. Easy.

Ah yes, the Eminent Bumper of Dead Threads and Chief Instigator of Obvious Trolls: I forget Your Lordship's influence at times.

If I were to take an average, both are pretty even. Why? Although SAO took the biggest nosedive in history, it had an incredible first half. AOT on the other hand did not have such a great start. However, it stayed consistent. AOT stayed within the range of being "good" whereas SAO's amazing first half and horrendous second half average out to also being "good".
I should say that anime that get a huge hype like these two are ones that I try to steer away from for a while. My disappointment in SAO after the hype was really bad, so when I heard about the hype for AOT, I overlooked it (until I was peer pressured). Basically, neither anime lived up to the hype. SAO would have, but AOT never will.

I just want to be clear: this is just one anime viewer's opinion. If you disagree, I don't care.

After I posted this, I realized I misread PILOT and thought it said PLOT.

As far as a pilot goes, SAO wins. But I never decide whether to continue watching an anime by only the pilot. I take the first two episodes. If I absolutely cannot stand those episodes, I drop it and forget it exists. If I have any higher rating, then I venture in to episode four. If I dislike the first four episodes, I drop the anime, but may consider trying again. If I liked them, then I will watch to the end unless the anime starts turning into something like Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece.

Attack on TItan by far. I ended up really liking SAO but the pilot didn't really wow me. I actually liked episodes 2-5 way more.

I haven't watched AOT yet. The trailer was like OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS PERFECTION, so I'm guessing it's good.

Uhh.. Out of those 2, I'd say Attack On Titan. Both were pretty subpar, but dat epic opening piqued my interest for the show.

However, my prediction is that AOT will not have as large of a fanbase as SAO and will not be as popular as SAO was/is.

your prediction was wrong, and i would like to point that out...flies away..

Hard choice.

Both being studio I.G. known for his opening's so..

Tough one, both accomplish the same thing, they both set the world they're in and provide.

It all depends on which story you prefer. Regardless of the source material, Studio I.G. is opening-tastic

Attack on Titan for me Not saying SAO's pilot didn't grab my interest, because it did, but AOT grabbed it a wee bit faster lol.
I like both animes, btw

SAO. Even though AoT had a good Pilot, I dropped AoT the moment they started being able to transform into Titans... they honestly could have used their brain and figured out a better way to defeat the Titans.

SAO was good but it honestly lost it entertainment at like episode 14-15 (can't remember).

Honestly, both anime shouldn't even get the attention they are getting now; they aren't even that good. I can name plenty of anime better than those two.
