SAO had a shitty first few eps and then went even further downhill until it became unwatchable by ep 10. But the first ep did grab my attention bad in a "this isn't that good but has potential for greatness" kind of way.

AoT, I was already a fair bit into the manga by the time it started airing, and I thought the first ep wasn't up to snuff compared to the manga but was still entertaining.

AoT has by far the better anime and source material but SAO grabbed my attention more with the first episode. So SAO wins.

Both anime are great but from the get go I'd say SAO got my attention more due to it being an anime based off an MMO and how it was setup. Attack on Titan had my attention too but just not as much.

ATTACK ON TITAN OMFG IT'S OBVIOUS

To me, this is like asking whether I think the concept of trolls (AOT) is better than the concept of VMMORPG (SAO). Being Scandinavian, I was told enough fairy tales about trolls as a kid to get impressed by it now. *shrug*

I LOVE SAO, but AoT's pilot episode was something else. It brought you directly into the world and didn't fuck around.

And AoT is already very popular, just as SAO was, and it will probably continue to be popular. I think they're about equal in terms of popularity.

Now quality is a different story because everybody has different tastes, especially when you're dealing with SAO (I've never seen an anime that was has such so much hate and love for it at the same time).

But there's no denying that both of them are the hit shows of their respective seasons, so I would say popularity is about the same.

I'm resisting the urge to get into a full on argument with you. I'm not going to make this a flame war, I just can't!

I'd argue AoT is much more popular than SAO. I am seeing people who have become jaded about anime the last few years get back into anime thanks to AoT. I never really saw that kind of reaction to SAO. Now SAO is definitely popular, but AoT is nigh near being a phenomenon.

AoT for me because it had more of an emotional impact on me than with SAO

I think AoT is much more character driven than SAO
