I currently have a Nokia N8, which uses the Symbian operating system. It was popular overseas for a while, but lost out to the others. Nokia was the one most using it, but Microsoft cut a deal with Nokia to use the Windows OS.

When I upgrade, it will be to the windows phone, unless another third party operating system comes up.

Why:

Apple is a horrid company that makes a product and then tells you what you should do with it. Does it work? Sure, so long as you do what THEY say. I am fundamentally opposed to supply-side business. I will not give that damn company a penny. It works and it works well, but it works well by controlling how YOU use it. There is no choice. There is no option. And then they screw you with peripherals, apps, and other components necessary just to make it useful.

Android is made by Google. The OS is basically free. That is why so many different manufacturers use it in their phones. Guess why it's free? -- They track and sell all your data. You are not the customer, you are the PRODUCT. As of the first quarter last year, they changed the privacy policies so you can't opt out of everything. They know how many phone calls you make. They know how often you call for pizza. They know where you are, where you eat, what you make, what you spend, even what your sexual fetishes are. Google knows it all, and they sell that data. That is insanely creepy.

Plus there are new apps are being designed for targeted advertising. When you walk past a store, you'll get texts with coupons. It will follow you everywhere. The annoying commercials on TV and the internet will now follow you everywhere in everyday life and people take it like little bitches. That is Google's world.

So that leaves Microsoft. They are arrogant, they are pricey, they put out an only semi-done product knowing that they can patch it. But they don't care. You pay Microsoft upfront and they don't give two shits what you do after they have their money. Privacy? Ok, whatever. They don't care who you are after the payment clears. 3rd party unapproved apps? Microsoft don't care. You bought it, if you want to void the warranty and break it, it is yours to break.

So you either pay to get talked to like a moron and told what approved uses your phone has, have your every move and every private thought sold, or buy a third party OS. Since Microsoft is the only majorly supported 3rd party OS, that is my next choice.

I use iPhone, because I like things to be standardized. Android phones have too much variety, I want to know exactly what to expect from my phone.

I use an Android phone because I have a grudge with Apple. iOS seems okay; but I will never support Apple again.

This. It's a shame because I do really like the Android OS, but I don't like the idea that anything I use it for is fair game for Google to use.
