I get the frustration with Mahiro. If he actually didn't care for Nyarko, that would be one thing. But, in the first season we learned that he does care for her and just doesn't want to show it for some reason. I think something that would be great for a third season is a rival for Nyarko's affections. Make Mahiro unsure about his position with Nyarko.

Honestly I think this is the opposite of what would work.

In the same vein, I think a rival for Mahiro would be interesting. A third party that draws Nyarko's affections due to Mahiro neglecting them...it would be interesting to see what Mahiro would do in this case...

I'm not sad this show ended tbh. Anyways, I was hoping for a kiss or something but didn't happen. Finale also lacked a bit of flavor but that's just my opinion. Rated this as 4/10. It had some funny moments here and there but ultimately didn't work with me.

I enjoyed the show a lot more than that, and am sad it's over.

Forget about a kiss, in that last episode he didn't even hug her! And she was on the verge of going away forever, and was obviously distraught about that, and he obviously knew that and cared and I think we saw a little glimmer that he also was a bit sad about that.

I feel like I've been the one person saying that Mahiro's reserve made sense, and that it didn't bother me. But I agree that in that last episode it just went too far. That was the moment in which we really needed to see some demonstration of affection. And it did't happen (pats on the head do not count for anything, and it's disgraceful that's what she had to settle for).

A third season could work out, but Mahiro needs some more Dere with his Tsun. He was nearly intolerable in the first season, but to the show's credit, he was merely boring the second season (a heavy improvement). There were even a few times where you notice Mahiro gaining a bit of an attachment, which was actually kind of nice. I will (probably) be thoroughly pissed off if he isn't with Nyarko by the half-way point though. I think they've milked the adolescent tension enough for two seasons. At any rate, here are my thoughts in a nutshell:

Dere Mahiro + Nyarko + rest of cast + references ≈ Great season 3.
Nyarko + rest of cast + references ≈ Good season 3
Nyarko + references ≈ Worth my time.
Tsun Mahiro + Nyarko + rest of cast + references ≈ Frustration and regret.

Must you always write what I think in a more eloquent way than I think it? lol

Yeah, you totally beat me to saying exactly this. Mahiro's character development has been "I don't hate you" in season 1 to "I pretty much like you but I won't say it" in season 2. Season 3 better have some episodes where Mahiro isn't a useless douche, and then I'll fully support a Mahiro x Nyarko official pairing. If nothing else, at least they work pretty well together.

I liked this season a lot more than season 1, and was honestly the show I looked forward to the most every weekend. It'll be sad without it.

More like "I pretty much like you but won't give you any sort of visual, symbolic, or metaphorical sign in any sense that I do, rather I'm a complete wall of emotion-less iron, and I'll keep stabbing you with forks every time you do something that annoys me, which is practically everything because I'm an irritable little fartwad".

At least that's what I get from Mahiro.

Honestly, it's kinda painful to watch how much Nyarko tries to connect with Mahiro and then gets shut down. It's not really funny and it's not really tense. It's just sad. You all know the old rule that when someone tells you they like you, your mind starts to work and push you towards liking them. I guess it's not all that surprising that the rule doesn't apply to a TSUN(dere) character like Mahiro, but he's basically taking the heart she offers him time and time again and stabbing it with forks. It's not cute; it's cruel. And that's why I'm rooting for Nyarko.

Also, once again I find a female lead who is just too good for the guy she is chasing. I want her to succeed because it'll make her happy, but I can't helping wishing there was a better option.

The comedy writing in this show is amazing, and really, the fact that Mahiro was such a drag on the show, and it was still well worth watching means that the rest of the show had to be pretty damn good. If they improve on Mahiro's relationship, this could very well be among my favorite comedies.

You mean like visually blushing and getting nervous, symbolically eating Nyarko's food, or metaphorically worrying about Nyarko getting sick more than he's worried about getting destroyed by aliens? How about blushing naked in a bathtub with Nyarko while literally telling her:

It's one thing to say that he's been cold or that the romance between them has been poorly executed (I agree), but to say that there have not been clues "in any sense" that he likes her does not seem accurate at all. The writers may not have created a decent relationship, but they're not complete idiots, and if you didn't see Mahiro giving any clues to Nyarko, then you've probably completely ignored a pretty good set of data. Even with the "fork-stabbing," I don't think I can remember anything other than threats in the second season, although I'm sure I'm just forgetting a couple of instances. I'm under the impression that he's mostly gotten used to the antics -- it seems like his default reaction in the second season was to sigh more than to get angry. He's calmed down a lot as far as I can tell. All we need is a proper relationship to form between them (which is already in the works), and I think Nyarko-san and the Crawling Chaos can turn into one of the best rom-com harems I've seen.

On one hand I like Nyaruko. On the other hand, I hate her because she's so damn forceful.
I'm honestly on Mahiro's side, so sue me. She's obsessive and aggressive; and if this were real life, I could have her charged for sexual assault on MULTIPLE accounts.

I was really sad when it ended, despite the TSUN(dere) nature of Mahiro, I thought it played off well as a RomCom. There were a lot of great comedy moments, and the fork gag was pretty funny, especially with the long running Monster Hunter references, as their is a pair of Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, that was literally a fork and a knife, just enlarged like crazy, and for some reason, they were really strong, but I digress. If there was to be a season 3, a little more progression between Nyarko x Mahiro, it would be great, he obviously has feelings for her, and his mom knows it, that's why she approves (kinda) of Nyarko. What I am hoping for is a season 3 where Mahiro's dad comes back, breaking the son with mother in harem stereotype of anime, and maybe becoming a point of admiration for Nyarko, like her asking him for advice on how to get close to Mahiro kind of situation. And we already know that Mahiro's Mom needs a little more than sononium to keep her going, she needs a little visible romance too.

It's sort of- I'm kinda on both sides: Mahiro's side He's right about Nyarko being too forecful and I expect Nyarko to act a bit more mature more frequently. On the other side I'm on Nyarko's side because goddamit just say you like her and stop tossing forks at everyone's heads!! I really want them to go on an ACTUAL date like when they went to the beach.. I really enjoyed that episode and i thought something would happen- wait a sec.. actually something DID happen! That's when Mahiro first fell for Nyarko! Damn I'm so slow at realising things..

I believe that there is a real good chance for a season 3 to come out. Everything that has happened must be building up for season 3. I'd love to start seeing a bit of dere from Mahiro to Nyarko. Mahiro just seems on the verge of confessing. It's just like everything can be said and done in just a single episode now. But as always I don't want it to end yet!!

Mahiro should start eating alien food! He's really missing out!

its... over... WAA!

Ok, I'm not one for anime usually. I alwayes find them hard to get into, and I usually prefer to watch a show while playingkerbalspace program, so reading subtitles is even less a thing I like, but if there is one thing I am passionate about, almost to the point of obsession, it's HP Lovecraft. I'm not a goth or anything like that, I just really really like the mythos, much in the same way this show does. I admit, when I first saw this and discovered how they were portraying the great old ones I was... dissapointed to say the least. But I kept with it ( there isn't much lovecraftian media to look for beyond short stories and a few movies) and eventually my strong disslikefor how the terrible eldritch lord nyarlathotep had beenportrayed as a horny obssesive school girl from space slowly melted into the aether as I connected with the parody and refferences.

Eventually I even got into the relationship stuff and I just fell for it completely.

As far as mahiro's attitude towards nyaruko is concerned, you have to give him leeway to a point, I mean he is beeing chassed after by a malign homocidal sanity destroying formless genderless abomination. It would take me afew years, and several thousand dollars worth of mental therapy, before I could accept love from an entity who's intelect towered above my own and who could accidentally purre my body in an instant without even realizing. However, I do agree that if a season 3 comes out he better be willing to atleast accept her less erotic advances in private, or post imminent death!

And about the forks... if he is so adept as throwing forks and using them as lethal weapons, and we discovered that they are capable of harming a great old one, then why the HELL HASNT HE BEEN PULLING HIS WEIGHT IN THE DAMN FIGHT SCEENES! IS IT REALLY THAT HARD TO INCLUDE YOURSELF IN A MELEE TO ASSIST THE PEOPLE THAT SAVE YOUR LIFE ON ALMOST A DAILY BASSIS?

Emotionality asside, I really hope a season 3 happens. I want more lovecraft humor! Iä! Iä Nyaruko-san! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Nyaruko Crunchyroll wgah'nagl fhtagn! Iä! Iä Fhtagn!
