I cannot really complain about that part where Bellows gets mad at Ledo.

That style has been in a lot of Urobuchi sensei writting . I find it very thoughtful and deep at times and you can see it in his work. A recent example was Psycho Pass.Thats why I praise his writing so much.

But then he comes up with bits of comedy here and there and this one is about the food as a sort of peace offering which is becoming a ritual before talking to him but since our shojinko is not use to seeing the raw food , it comes out pretty funny .I just cracked up when he said 'Matta ka "Not again !!! ...

I just love it ..

ps at least it didnt have a head

I want to put forth on the (imaginary) table a few things.

1) protagonist comes from a society that is in a constant state of war with ika musume (the aliens) and as a solider, whom for all his life is trained to kill ENEMIES and fight for the survival of the human race

1.1) protagonist's mindset is fight and survive

2) when protagonist goes to earth everyone is an ENEMY

3) protagonist does not differentiate between being human and being an enemy

4) ship people sees everyone as human and THUS should not kill other humans

so in the protagonists defense he was asked to help, therefore initiating the pirates were enemies and here we are to number 1

Subtleties and gray areas are always good to see instead of black and white; good vs evil.

I loved the suspense and action in this episode. hopefully, the anime will continue in this direction but, I have my doubts... Regardless, episode three was awesome!

On top of that, I think there is a deeper message in the way that the characters interact. My perspective on the characters is that Ledo represents the logical part of the human mind. Amy (and Bellows) is the emotional part of the mind. Sure, sometimes it is more logical to kill people. The person may threaten someone's safety or their way of life. Human emotion does stop people from doing evil things (most of the time), which is why Amy and Bellows were so mad at Ledo for what he did. They feel the guilt and anguish of taking a life while Ledo just looks at weighing the pros and cons of the situation. The more he accepts this new way of life, Ledo becomes more emotional and less calculating.
I don't know if that is what Gen Urobuchi had in mind when he wrote it, but that is how I interpret that.

Indeed,

Ledo is a pilot a, warrior a soldier ,you need to be logical and he came from a very scary world of other trying to annihilate the human race

but with this expeirience he will learn and I am excited to see the character development Ledo will have.

Kudos to the new seiyuu as well.

and that beacon Chamber left in the solar system is still telling me that something big will happen because of that.... well maybe

The proper way to deal with piracy is to make it clear to the pirates that attacking you is not a survivable proposition. Anything that in any way makes piracy seem like a viable way of life encourages it. The best case situation would be if when a pirate captain suggests attacking Gargantia the crew kills him for being too stupid to live.

An old Machiavellian proverb. "If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared.”

The entire battle the pirate fleet largely suffered a bunch of little injures. Now it is still mostly intact and has suffered a humiliating defeat. Its leader is still alive, almost certainly nursing a grudge, and doesn't hold to Gargantia's don't-hurt-them-too-much policy. Also it is still free to raid any other fleet that doesn't happen to have a super advanced combat weapon. Oh and it certainly looked like Gargantian warships suffered more casualties then the pirate ships.

Frankly Gargantia's policy and tactics sucked. Even barring the other issues Ledo/Chamber could have disabled the pirate fleet before it ever got in range of Gargantia.

Edit : I will concede that destroying the pirate fleet outright would probably have made this a three episode anime.
