And everyone in the comment section were talking about Chamber becoming the Chamber-O-Matic , he is non stick , with non- dangerous chemicals , all you need is a nice hot sun and some meat and sea salt and some pepper

Dont forget the super secret special sauce!!!

Indeed , the special secret sauce !!

What could it be ? shouyu, A-1 Barbecue sauce, Jack Daniel BarbQ sauce

or, dare it be...a perfect combination of the three?!

Here's my prediction for what the plot sequence of this series is going to be like:

Based on what's happened so far, my guess is that in the end, Chamber and Ledo will eventually find a way to get back home but, Ledo will decide to stay on Gargantia. The End. But, before that there will be laid-back episodes like episode 5, flashback episodes of Ledo's past, romance/harem, and pirate attacks/basic challenges that the protagonist will have to overcome.

*note: my predictions/theories are based upon common cliches seen throughout various anime. Also, this is my personal opinion don't take it to heart (get really mad or annoyed).

The character interactions on this show are great. Ledo continues to steadily develop, and Chamber is a constant source of amusement. I think this is easily the best beach-themed episode I've seen in an anime.

Interview with the director:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2013-05-06/interview-kazuya-murata-director-of-gargantia-on-the-verdurous-planet

Could be a happy ending after all...

Interesting us saying it feels like a movie. He says he does better at movies. And prefers original settings, doesn't like manga adaptations as he feels that much of the work of direction is done in the drawing of the manga.

Chamber serves his main purpose as a grill, made me laugh. This anime is really enjoyable, can't wait to see what happens next. We all know it wont be plain sailing, no pun intended.

The interview should ease people's mind. Let's see what challenges await Ledo.

Yeah I know, it's just that I'm worried they'll think of some way since Ledo is beastly. By the way things are going I can see the pirates aren't the big threat of the story, the Hideauze might make their entrance to earth pretty soon here. Man it kills me when they don't show previews for the next episode.

I *think* that actually there are very brief ep previews displayed by Chamber on the sail of the ship in the ED. No words though obviously.

I'm also another vote for mild disappointment at bothering with fanservice: is it really necessary for a show such as this with so much going for it? Are we the anime audience so shallow that we'll all become furious if not shown skin, thus refusing to follow the show? Fine, we're living on the sea therefore it's natural that people should wander around in bathing suits: doesn't mean we need close-ups of their boobs though *sigh*. I've no objections to the slowness of the episode or the lack of plot development: more than happy to enjoy a 'calm day', just that the fanservice was so jarringly out of place.

They're out in the ocean, without much for entertainment.
It's nice out.
The sea is extremely calm (which is rare)
and Pinion wants to throw a huge bbq to cheer Ledo up.

How are bikini's and a little fan service out of place in this situation. In all honesty, what did you expect? a slumber party? What would YOU do if someone was throwing a "cheer ledo up" bbq, and you were surrounded by an endless, serene ocean? Go inside and read a book? haha.

It really wasn't that out of place when you think about it.

Ledo has 2 different seiyuu's? One for gibberish and one for actual Japanese?

Not gibberish, one is Ledo's actual language, the other is Japanese, at least in this context.

I could care less who the director is, He isn't the creator of this series, of this story, he's just the one who makes sure all the production people do their jobs and makes sure it's finished on time.

this director isn't like Leiji Matsumoto.

Anyway Its funny, Ledo's upbringing, life as a soldier, and how he feels now, he's out of his element, I see some similarities to the movie " Soldier " starring Kurt Russell ; just bits of similarities.

Took the words out of my Mouth. 'Soldier' for all it's flaws, is an excellent movie in that regard. And Gary Busey's character rocked.

I've highlighted the main points in my original post in case it wasn't perfectly clear: the beachwear is not my objection. Fanservice makes sense when a show isn't as highbrow as this one. Gargantia does not need to stoop to it. There are plenty of other show currently streaming on CR where we're all expecting fanservice and it fits perfectly well with all that's preceded.

I wouldn't call out the fanservice of this anime. The anime hasn't stooped to a level with which it is just a bad "watch". One must understand that the main principle of episode 5 was to get Ledo accustomed to ship life. The medium which with was used is relaxing next to the ocean, go for a swim, having some fun.

Plenty of animes have incoherent, "just there" fanservice.

^ This. It would be an issue if it happens when times are serious. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they throw it in even then, those slave pirates seem like potentials for fanservice.
