Anyyyyyyway lol, I still think the whole mecha action in the first half was just used to contrast how different the two worlds are (one foreign and alien, one more familiar) and I don't think you're supposed to not feel anything in the first half because all the soldiers were expendable. Kind of like bees in a colony, they were made and trained to protect and serve the hive.
Now with the second half, with the intro of the new characters, I think that's where we will build connections with the show

I'll laugh if this turns into

I've yet to find a small pointless animal companion anything but annoying or completely irrelevant to the show it is in. I doubt this one will break that trend.

Not even Kyuuby?

Likewise I've not watched Madoka, I've seen 3 episodes and he came off as pretty annoying.

I think Kyuuby doesn't qualify because even early on it's pretty clear he's not pointless. Annoying, though? I think I'd still say "Yes" (not as annoying as Madoka's timid voice though).

This is my inner child anime. I don't know if any of you have had the moments of I wanted to be an astronaut and travel through space. This is it for me.

Same here so I get what you mean.

I actually loved the beginning of episode 1. The sci-fi terms, the laser beams, chamber and the fighting.

And then, they showed Amy at the end.

It's like, WTF. I thought this was a fighting show?!

No offense but I really really wanted it to be a fighting sci-fi show with mecha. I mean, the concepts seemed cool in the beginning so why go back to Earth?

UGH.

But still, I look forward to more because it still looks pretty good. But I do hope there'll be more sci-fi mecha fighting.

If you are just buying one volume it is expensive, 2000 yen or $20 for the basic shipping box. Then after the first one it is 300 yen each so if you import a few series at a time like me it isn't bad but if you just import one then you might want to import all 3 BD boxes (15 episodes, 12 plus the 3 OVAs) at once, then it will be 2600 yen shipping for the whole series which isn't bad. Along with the 26-28% usual discount amazon still comes out cheaper than most places in North America for expensive releases like Aniplex.

Gargantia still doesn't have a license for home video but I predict NISA.

First part really attracted my attention. The battle was quite good. Setting too. Second part really surprised my because I never expeceted that turn of the events. I mean I thought that the earth doesn't exist anymore. So it really surprised me. Though I'm a bit dissapointed because the tehcnology on Gargantia is actually on a very low level. Compared with todays technology it's at least 20 years behind. I'd rather expect form people to be prepared for earth freezing. And that many info and knoledge was lost and I'm surprised that it's believed to be a story that people left the earth and went into a space in search for new earth.
However I enjoy this series very much. I'm looking forward for more.

It comes with english subs? That's a new one, though I don't know if I can afford 2 series at once

Official subs are normally ugly and typeset badly anyway.

I'd rather watch it properly here thanks. Give it the views it deserves, in clean 720p HD, with the ability to turn the subs off entirely. It wasn't made for free you know...

Episode 2 is a funny case anyways as they gave away episodes 1-2 on BD at an event last month and they're out. Episode 3 may not be out as early by fansubbers, Crunchyroll may beat them.

Not new but not the norm. Some stuff comes with English subs these days. Little Busters! and LoveLive! both do. LoveLive! subs are exactly the same as on Crunchyroll so not ugly or badly typeset at all. Little Busters! I haven't compared side by side but I bet they are exactly the same as well.
