Yeah I have to give props for the War of the Worlds vapo-ray.

But! I have to deduct one point for not having a scene of Bellows freaking out upon realizing she's covered in people dust.

there is a difference between being strong and stepping on ants.

They are going to be terrified of him now. The difference in tech level is massive.

some interesting thinking on the aliens though. the alliance has no habitable planets at all. I think that is a main key for understanding the conflict with the aliens. With tech like Warp gates you would think we would have found at least something close.

I think the aliens are planet eaters, something that devours the elements we need for a habitable planet as part of their life cycle. That is probably the reason co-existance is impossible. They need to destroy the worlds we need to live on.

New to the forums, so hi everyone! haha

But on topic, I think this anime is amazing! the effects are great, and if they come out with a blu-ray release I'd definitely get it.

The plot has a lot of potential, and the pilot episode really drew me in. Great cast of characters too.

Yeah. I liked how the conversations between the Gargantia leadership made it clear that they didn't have a real grasp about what they were dealing with despite the abilities demonstrated up until that moment.

I also noted the one pirate mentioned the name of the person I'm guessing will be the series primary antagonist. I'll bet that the face shown projected on that sail in the credits is that same person.

Yeah, I don't think they realized just how powerful Chamber is up until that point. It's even more than just stepping on ants. It's more like pouring gasoline on the ant holes, lighting it on fire, and watching the ants burn to death.

Your theory on the aliens makes sense in a way. It could be that they haven't been able to find any place they can actually settle on because these planet eaters are always near by, or something like that. That, or they just haven't been able to find a planet with the right conditions needed.

Those were my thoughts on their likely reaction as well. I think there is a disconnect because Ledo is used to "enemy" being something alien to be completely annihilated, rather than fellow humans. It may have been deadly conflict, but the pirates and the salvagers seemed to have some degree of understanding between them for the rules of the conflict.

The show is great so far, definitely enjoying it. I was quite surprised by the end of the second episode. The people on the gargantia are certainly going to be more wary of Ledo due to his annihilation of the pirates. I expect quite the disconnect between Ledo and the people of gargantia. It's too bad because his intentions were good, but I guess thats what happens when all you know is war.

I really enjoyed the music that started playing at the end of episode 2 when they started to lift off. Appropriately epic, it was.

I have high hopes for this anime, though I'm on the fence about the mecha design. To compare to Gundams, which are usually more blocky and broad, this one is more slender and round. Lots of curves and it has a more humanoid look to it. The cockpit is trim and only has what's necessary, which is a nice change.

Of course, the propulsion system is much cooler than anything I've seen on a Gundam, but I'm still torn on it. Right now I don't think this design is going to inspire mecha enthusiasts very much, not like the Unicorn and Banshee have, which is unfortunate.

I talked about the propulsion system in another topic but here it is

Gargantia as weird as it sounds is using some pretty hard core sci-fi theory of propulsion. That sphere above its head is a micro gravity well use to pull the suit where it wants to go it just has to change the location around the suit BOOM the mech moves in that direction. Allow for theoretical insane acceleration with out breaking the laws of physics since to produce this micro grav well it basically pulls the space around it. IE suit is in an invisible sphere that is getting pulled by the Micro grav well so every atom is being pull equally so no felt acceleration.

Well, I think this is what the mecha of Gargantia is using anyways.

Basically they used that and the main theory of future combat being spheres in space for agility crossed it with some Hardcore Sci-fi theories of gravity well control (proven in a few seconds in episode 2) plus Japan wants mecha in everything = Gargantia's Annihilation suit of doom design.

Yeah, I was surprised about the scientific theory they are using in this show. They actually did research on the few ways you could possibly create wormholes (although obviously, it's a stretch of our capabilities now, and perhaps may be impossible).

Yeah I totally agree with this line of thinking, they may be enemies but the pirate captain asks Bellows to leave Gargantia and join them. If they really wanted her skills and were evil that no one would cry over if annihilated they wouldn't be asking. They aren't executing anyone they just threaten sexual assault and skirmish with the ships and crew that were there for defense.

It's clear that the pirate fleet is large (only 3 ships broke away and attacked) and probably big enough to do serious damage to Gargantia but excessive loss of life for either sides is an unacceptable risk in a Earth with limited human and material resources.

think how to deal with Ledo, the Gargantia leadership just like the three trolls in <the hobbit> . And I think its thanks to Urobuchi sensei for the pirates' dead .They would be living with surrendered in other animes. LOL

I thought similar to some of the other posts here; Ledo's actions will probably ingratiate him to some (like Amy) and alienate him from others (like the guy that keeps suggesting they throw him overboard.) It'll be interesting to see the friendships and hostilities that evolve out of that, as well as the inevitable "gaining the trust of the doubters with an epic save" moment that's sure to come somewhere down the line. :D

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far though, it's shaping up to be pretty good imo.

I would like to know the explanation for how it was possible to
The kind of crew that works on an independent salvage vessel can't all be saints...
