So I am going to list off some products which are probably the best to use to get a fully immersive VR experience for our times.
(Plus links to the official sites for the products )

1. Top V.R. Head-Mounted Display: Oculus Rift
-Allows you to see through the eyes of a character in a first person view, will soon have head tracking in the consumer version so you can turn your head in the game and crouch, EX: peeking past a corner (more realistic and true to reality)

2. Motion and Orientation Detection Game Controller: Razer Hydra
These controllers look like the Wii controllers but are much more precise. Uses a magnetic field to detect the absolute position and orientation of the controllers.

3. Locomotion Device (VR treadmill): Virtuix Omni
A circular treadmill that has an attachment to your waist so when you walk and turn in real life you also do so in the game.

All of these products are great to support but we also need content in order for the products to reach their full potential. I found a game which does just that called The Gallery, it implements the Rift and the Hydra into its gameplay. It's still being created but you can check it out on it's kickstarter if you want for updates and more info.

It's up to you to back that game but I feel like this game will lead to great things and inspire others to create more VR content so one day we will have enough research to have ourselves a Nerve Gear of our own

Forgot to mention that the consumer version for the Rift and an updated Hydra in about a year will be wireless, the current versions use wires.

If we are compiling a list, here are some more.

The Emotiv: http://www.emotiv.com/ This is a brainwave reading device that allows you to set various actions along with your thoughts. For those that are into big fancy words, it specifically is a consumer Electroencephalography system. This area is a biiiit rough at the moment, but does work! I've tried it myself. Think of it as like training to use the FORCE. Think about lifting a rock, and you lift the rock. The only downside at the moment is you have to use the FORCE for well... everything. Imagine trying to use the force to switch guns all the time, turn left, turn right. We are getting there, needs some improvement still.

This video shows an Emotiv EPOC used for navigation in a VR CAVE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3tgc4-pibc

Tactile Haptics: http://tacticalhaptics.com/ Tool used to provide physical feedback for things like swords, guns, and other things. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD3hhIYr1f4
