Preview are very important for first impressions .....Well I just hope the voice acting is good

but I sure hope Kayaba doesnt sound like that becuase it sure didnt match his personality. Like I said that introduction speech is too sing songy .

Also for a voice actor working on 2 characters at the same schedule is nothing besides they can record all the lines for each actor pretty quickly for a number of episodes at a time , that if they dont keep making lots of mistakes lol

Everyone is going to have different thoughts.

From watching subbed and dubbed, there is a HUGE difference on the acting.

There is some well acted dubbed shows but some just don't have it.

I think everyone here will say subbed > dubbed.

Indeed...

Of course there are excellent ,good , acceptable and bad ones in everyones mind.

But to me since I know that industry.... When a production ADR comapny tries to voice match the voice talents to the seiyuu , then it can become an excellent dub. The good ones matches the voice to the character physical stature.

Then next is when the translation/script is good and then the performance is believable .

The seiyuu has an advantage becuase all of them are in one booth during recording. So they dont just read the line , they can react to the other seiyuu plus match what their character is doing in the images ie storyboard on screen. While the ADR is harder, becuase you are by yourself and you react to the last line of what the other character just said or to their emotion on screen at the same time working on the timing with the beeps and lip flaps.

my significant other only watches the dub but he sure can tell if its pretty well acted or not.

SO hopefully the rest of the ADR work is good for SAO because i like this anime.

well, it wasnt the worst thing ive ever seen, but it could be a lot better. I'll watch it though, if only to support the american anime industry, i mean, how can you expect it to get better if nobody watches them. my biggest gripes are the pronouciation of Asuna's name and the "If I die in the game, I die in real life" line other than that it seems fairly descent. i hope it gets on Toonami though

I wonder if the dub voice actors watch the scene in Japanese with subtitles before they act it, if they did maybe they would know what emotion to put into it. It seems to me they just read from a piece of paper and that is it.

Well the japanese almost drop the "u" in saying or calling out the name Asuna since they say it fast too. The same way they say Daisuke .
But the english way is to read each syllable and the director will correct you .

I know for a fact some voice actor who knows Japanese for example Yuri Lowenthal. He will read it as a Japanese name would be pronounced but he would correct himself not to do too Japanese lol. He knows how to speak Japanese by the way lol...and I love him too ...sorry Tara they both sound very good in Tiger and Bunny

Yes the script is on a piece of paper on a music stand ...its not on the screen

, they can hear the line of the other character but its in japanese but if the line is already recorded in english then they can play that line in english to help the actor really know how to respond to the line beforehand and they match it to how their character is doing and saying it , then the beep starts.. technically it can be challenging for an actor.

I know I cant , I am like the seiyuu , i need the other actors to be in the same room as I am lol.

So hopefully it wont be too bad in SAO

That's probably one of my biggest pet peevs about dubs is when someones name is mispronounced.

The almost silent u for Asuna is a lot like suki(skee) instead is replaced with "sue-kee" sound. Bugs me because I know better but obviously most watchers wouldn't and don't know or care about the difference

Addressing me or not, your assertion is that from a dub trailer with at least 30 seconds worth of talking it is not possible to claim it sounds bad and will likely be bad. That simply isn't true and while it's possible that they chose crap lines that don't do the VA's justice it's far more likely that is how everyone's going to sound.

I never said it wasn't possible. Personally, I'd rather judge if it's bad or not based on the full dub, not just thirty seconds worthy of talking.

I vote subs a lot of the time but some shows just flow better with dubs. Cowboy Bebop,Darker than Black, Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood, Full Metal Panic, Claymore, Blood - C,Ghost in the Shell:Standlone Complex I mean you can watch them in subs but for me these work better with English. I think it has to deal with how much japan(place and reference) is in the anime that make subs worse or better.

Production I.G. seems to make shows more often that can flow into better into English so thats why I find them dubs first. Though SAO... yeah that is only going to work as subs.... just can't see dubs on this one.
