We wouldn't need a military if we just had better communication skills.

How would the world like having China's military police it? Nobody wants America around. . . . until they're needed.

Misusing the word 'are' three times is more than a typo, that's a serious flaw in your education.

Iceland has little need for taxation to support military, as they don't exactly require one.

Soldiers get the shit end of the sick in the US all the time, sadly. Veterans are left out on the street with little care for their likely PTSD related suffering. US citizens do not treat their servicemen with respect due to taking them for granted as they live comfortable and peaceful lives in a protective bubble. It's pathetic and true.

If soldiers meant anything to anyone, they'd get the treatment they deserve and require. Not just people who agreed to some terms of active duty being a living hell. Support is a basic need of all people and to see it lacking for warriors is an inexcusable shame.

In the freedom Index America is ranked number 32. So I think the people would rather have 31 other countries over us.

where are you from?

Yes it is true that new is filtered in America, but the same can be said for any country. You only hear what your country wants you to hear.
As a former soldier I have seen things from both sides, and as person who lived in Germany and Japan for years.
As for the North-Korean territory it is false the American government has no interest in it.

Because everyone has the freedom to just up and leave the country of their birth, and find a place in another country where the language and traditions are completely different.

People come to america for the economy, not the intellectual freedoms.

On topic, our DoD is way over funded. If they would cut back on half of their unnecessary programs, and cut back on the unnecessary paperwork, they could potentially save enough money to pay for veteran's benefits, proper equipment and efficient release of essential information to physicians.

Also, for a country with one of the largest military's in the world, it also has a ridiculously low tax rate, and a regressive one at that. Look up all the other countries with a regressive tax rate and tell me if you still want to keep complaining about paying for your public benefits like roads, bridges etc.

My research has found that US spends 4.7% of GDP on military. So, I’d like to see some citation for this 53% figure you assert.
I also have a question: Are US taxpayers getting value for their money?

If you think our military is solely to protect the U. S. homeland in case of attack by a foreign government, we are clearly spending too much. I think that the purpose of our military is to do that and to protect our interests abroad and deterring attacks on those interests. That includes things like ensuring the freedom of traffic on the seas and in the skies. All of this aside, I think that we’re paying too much and our allies are paying far too little.

I also think the war on terrorism has spread out of control, even where enemies do not exist, it has become necessary to invent them. America is now the physical manifestation of Big Brother, the symbol of projected power, and most people are blind to the injustices perpetrated by our own government in the name of freedom.

I try and imagine the amount of accumulated scientific knowledge we would have if it weren’t for governments need to invent enemies.

How much out of every tax dollar spent do you think goes to OUR military budget?
47% goes into weapons and research. 6% more goes into paying for OUR soldiers and their needs.
so for ever dollar taken for tax 53% of it is given to the military.

Compare that to Iceland they take 1% of their tax payers money and put it into a military Budget.

Now lets look at the 2nd largest military China, how much more do you think we spend in OUR military than they do? we spend 5 times more than they do.
We spend over 40 times more than most other countries.

So next time you take a dollar out of your wallet just think how about half will be spent on weapons and bases made for killing people, and another few pennies on the people to use those weapons.

Do we Really need to spend so much money on OUR military?
Iceland spends 1% on THEIR military, we spend 53%.
Makes you think where they spend the other 99% of THEIR money? Education? Science? Health care? What are <-- I'm surprised you actually got this right -- they crazy!?!

You can't even tell the difference between "are" and "our." Therefore, your opinion was invalid from the moment you typed up that pitiful title. I couldn't even focus on what point you were trying to make because of how many times you shot yourself in the head with that error.

Off Topic:

As older Crunchyroll goers know I lived in Germany before I lived in America, wile my father is American, I did not learn good amount of English until I moved to America. In simple terms English is my 2nd language. How is your grammar in your 2nd language?
On another note your remark is one used so often by people who do not have the skill to debate. What do we call your type, yes they call your type a grammar Naz

well GDP =/= Tax money so those numbers shouldn't be equal to what he quoted earlier. Also protect the US from foreign powers doesn't necessarily mean pure defensive spending, sometimes to protect you need to attack the enemy first to prevent harm to a nation.

Although I do agree we are overspending our money on an unnecessary size and powerful army, and that money could be much better spent elsewhere.
