One thing I'll say after seeing episode 2 is that it's a refreshing change to see a main character in a mecha anime be like, "They killed my girl, so now I'm going to kill them back." and just not give two shits about the enemy.

This story does have the potential to end up on the more mature side if they handle it well and that would keep me interested. We'll see, though.

The first episode did not impress me until after the credits, but this one impressed me from the beginning. While it is a bit disappointing to see that Shouko is not dead for no real reason, I can accept that if only for the fact that it makes the main character more interesting. He basically threw away his morals for the avenging of Shouko, and now he realizes he's become a killer for no real reason.

L-Elf almost seems like he might be dark parallel to Haruto, as he makes mention of someone's name after "killing" Haruto, so I think he might have been motivated to become who he is now by a similar death to Shouko, only the girl didn't end up alive 5 minutes later. I'm not sure why he called Haruto a monster since he is undoubtedly far worse, but maybe he's hoping to just discourage him. As for the confession..

I couldn't put it better myself.

BTW, I want someone to make a gif of the Valvrave committing Harakiri.

I agree this anime has potential but the writting is weak in certain things and a lot of the other concept are inconsistent with the overall technology.

I almost thought that it was almostt a joke that they want the main protagonist to get into 1. revenge mode and then off revenge mode 2. to keep his promise to return mode , powered up and was able to return.

However I am curious , so i will keep watching this one.

Exactly. The way they did it was so ham-handed. We needed a catalyst for his initial change, but, unless they were able to do something more subtle and deep, its helpful to have an external reminder of what he used to be and what he's lost in himself. I think your suggested alternative to achieving the same effect is still pretty obvious (which is probably appropriate for this show) but quite a bit better than what they went with.

i just realized Shoko's seiyuu is the same for Chihaya lol after listening to her complain ... its Asami Seto. Iwasnt paying attention to her

...Anyway getting the character right out of the box to revenge mode becuase of her death was pretty weak... and so is the reason for him to get into the mecha which he has no clue about .

I f they show something beforehand that would indicate his connection to mechas and then write something better on how he got in there then it would be much better Like a dream .

I remember they did this very well with Macross Frontier main character Alto in episode 1 .
Which by the way was one of my favorite mecha that never got licensed for release ...no company picked it up ...that anime was awesome

You can blame Harmony Gold for that. They claim ownership to all Macross distribution rights in the USA (though it has been struck down in Japanese courts). Since it is very expensive to fight that kind of legal battle, nobody has challenged them to that in the USA.

Based on a brief scene in the beginning of this episode, I smell a love triangle brewing up soon among all this chaos.

Also, regarding the end of with "
", I got another Code Geass vibe.
