When I went to Europe this past summer, Paris was one of the places I visited. It was a nice city, but it didn't exactly knock my socks off. One thing I didn't take into account was the amount of smoking there would be outside. Hard to find a patch of fresh air. That aside, the place had great food and great music. I didn't bother with the Eiffel Tower, but I did enjoy watching some of the Euro Cup in the Hyundai fan park nearby.

Of course, why not? I'd be more interested in trying out the food than seeing the Eiffel tower and buildings though. I'd love to visit tons of places, not just Paris. I've been a travel junkie ever since I was a baby Military brat.

Was down that way last year on the way to Houston. Glad Paris has a loop and adequate road signs. I swear the older I get the harder it becomes to read road signs at night. Like oats in a horse, just passing through.

I'd only go to Paris if I could take Elizabeth with me.

I have been, it was OK but not somewhere I would be bothered about going back to.

I have been to Paris a couple of times, honestly I don't like the city very much.

The people are generally very arrogant, unhelpful, greedy and unfriendly.
I've been to parts of Italy, Greece, Turkey, Spain and other European cities or villages where people didn't or couldn't speak English, but only in Paris the people don't even try to help you if you don't speak their language. (Outside the larger cities in France people are generally a lot more friendly and helpful.)

There is a huge amount of poverty all around, almost every time I went there, wether it was in the 1990's or last year that has always been one of the constant factors.
I've seen complete families, homeless, roaming the streets with nothing done to help these people and no, that wasn't just me taking a turn into the wrong neighbourhood.
There's large concentrations around more touristy areas, because at least the tourists are willing to give a Euro or 2.

Aside from that, a large portion of the city has a very penetrant smell of urine. Yes, piss.
No matter where I come up, the smell is there.

As for the food and sights, as others have said a lot of that stuff is overrated.

Am I saying do not go to Paris?
No, you should visit it once or twice to form your own opinion. But having been there several times myself, you could say I'm pretty close to hating the city.

Been there more than once and have a love-hate relationship with the city. Some things about the city are nice and some are bad just like most large cities that are tourist destinations, but overall the city is overrated.

I'm sad to see so many folks have experienced rudeness in Paris. I will say, the trick is to always attempt to speak to the natives in French. Even if you don't know much, and completely butcher it, that's typically enough for them to have a very friendly conversation in English. It's funny actually, some of them even compliment you for trying.

I've only really ran into grumpy folks at touristy locations, and usually the above statement applies.

I'd like to go, but only once or twice would be plenty. I'm just not really interested in Paris even though how popular it is. I'd rather spend my time visiting cities I think I would love such as: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Dublin, Switzerland (Zurich/Geneva/Bern), Stockholm, Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, and a few others. I just have a different taste in traveling destinations, so I'd go to Paris once to check it out, but probably wouldn't go back unless I loved it. I do know they have great food though.

I LOVE travelling and touring around. Europe is the place I want to visit the most, and I'm heading there in 3 years T^T
I'd prefer other European cities than Paris, because the only thing I think I'd look forward to is the tower.

Living in an English/French country, I had no choice but to take French lessons. I know there's differences between Canadian French and France French, but I don't really like the language. I don't know....their accents throw me off :/
