Post Reply Filtering site news, linked shows and advertisements by region
Posted 4/12/13
Hello,

first of all, I apologize if this would actually be considered minor, I have to admit that I find it hard to distinguish between minor and major points of interest as well as issues.

Another thing in advance - due to my moving to a new place, I haven't had internet access for two months, so I might not be up-to-date with everything, at least something appears to have changed about advertisements - is it normal that I'm seeing non-CR advertisements as premium member?

Nonetheless, as the title implies, I've had issues with the news for quite some time now. The subject of some regions being able to watch a comparatively small amount of shows has been discussed by others as well as myself for quite some time and I think most of us understand the reasons for regional licenses. If we didn't accept that, we probably wouldn't be here - we're well aware of the fact that CR is not to blame for this.

However, what I'm definitely less than happy about is the fashion in which new (and old) titles are being announced, advertised and linked. Whenever a new season begins, or rather, whenever new titles are being announced, there's a load of new entries in the news-section, each containing several titles which will be offered on the site in the near future.

Especially when there's a title of interest, I tend to open the article in anticipation - or rather, that's what I used to do. Nowadays, I just open the articles to see how many shows I do not get to watch here in Germany - while it's somewhat fun to see if the number of unavailable shows exceeds that of the previous season, I'd hardly consider it a customer-friendly business-model for Crunchyroll.

I have no intention of hiding the fact that I'm a little bitter about this. It's not that I'm not happy that a lot of people can watch Anime - it's just that I'd rather not know how much more other people get by paying the same amount of money I pay since there are 1 or 2 shows of (minor) interest left for me with Gintama gone again.

The same applies to advertisements (I recall HUGE advertisements for SAO in the background of the site, which, when clicked, led me to a page which told me that I cannot watch the show, which seems kind of counterintuitive to me) as well as links within the player after a video has finished playing - a large part of the shows linked there are shows that I cannot watch.

In essence:
If possible, could you add region filters to advertisements for CR-shows, news entries and in-video links?

We've already established that there's nothing Crunchyroll can do about the licensing, but that's exactly why I'm hoping for some cooperation as far as the news and the other aspects are concerned.

I'm quite sure that there are people from less-favoured regions who do not share my sentiment; however, I'm also sure that there just as many who do.

For that reason, I'm asking you to reach out to that minority in a fashion viable for you - by adding filters, it's as simple as that.

I'm sorry for the rather long explanation, but I figured it would be better if you fully understood why I'm asking you to do this. I've pondered making this request for quite some time, but I suppose it would be better to ask than simply exposing myself to the constant annoyance that the news-section for the spring-lineup is turning out to be.

I don't like that idea. I hate all region filters. Maybe I can't watch these shows but I want to have access to this information.

Perhaps CR could offer an optional region filter?

That would be the preferable solution, of course.
