STOP with the 5-star reviews after one episode

I am getting really tired of the 5-star 'reviews' posted after one episode of a new anime is aired. I know no one on this site believes this (due to the millions of reviews that say 'it was an OK show...5-stars') but 5 stars means it's a spectacular, amazing show.

There is NO WAY to know if a show is worth 5 stars after just one episode. There might be enough info to tell if the show is going to fail hard (Majestic Princes come to mind) in one episode, but spraying drool-flecked fanboy praise all over the screen after one episode just makes you look like an idiot.

So please, if you want to say how you really liked the first episode of a show, do it in the comments. Reviews are supposed to be a critical look at the worth of an anime, and you just cannot do that after one show.

Edit: To be perfectly clear, I'm talking about the written reviews under the 'Review' tab, not the star ratings on individual episodes.

People can do whatever they feel like.

That's your personal opinion, I might rate it a 5 star on a new anime next time just to piss you off

are we talking about the actual typed reviews on the show's page or are we talking about the 5 star rating system on each episode?

I can usually tell if I'm going to be interested in a show after one episode, but I don't review anything anyway.

Hahaha, you sound just like my brother. He gets mad that I rate anime after every episode, and automatically give stuff 5 stars if I really enjoyed it.

I agree with you 100%, but this place is filled to the brim with teens/20-somthings... hyper, spastic kids with the attention span of a small soap dish. They see an episode, usually the first episode, and they lack patience, any semblance of critical thinking skills, and the next thing you know it's : "OMG!!11!! THIS THE BEST ANIME EVAR!!111!!" and so on...

It's a drag really. There's no way to use Crunchyroll's rating system because they're so insanely skewed because most people are rating an episode and not the entire show. CR shouldn't allow "Reviews" of the show to be written until the show has run in full or at the very least, one season (12-13 episodes). Or CR should put up separate review tabs for each episode.

Your best bet is to not read the reviews or take them with a grain of salt. Some people try to put up fair, non-bias reviews after the show run, but for the most part, the bulk of reviews are not an accurate reflection of the entire show.

CR really needs to crack down on the bogus reviews. They could sell their social graph for quite a bit of money if they cleaned it up a bit.

That's why I usually don't review any show until it's either completed its run or at least run past a dozen or so episodes. Although the reviews section takes a little more effort since its a separate section from the comments you can directly post on right after watching a show.

I'm with you. In fairness sometimes people are fans of the manga/visual novel, but by and large it is baffling how an opinion of a whole show could be formed from nothing more than a glimpse.

To be clear, I'm talking about the written reviews, not the star buttons related to each episode.

Because for a show to get 5 stars it has to be great throughout its entire run, beginning to end. However, if you see stuff you really don't like in the first episode, writing that's weak or lazy, bad animation, cliche characters, you can already tell it's going to be bad. A show could start great in the first couple of episodes (Total Eclipse) and then devolve into something completely lame by the middle or end (Total Eclipse).

Looks like I'm not the only one who's going to start doing this.
