That's your personal opinion, I might rate it a 5 star on a new anime next time just to piss you off

It's my personal opinion how many stars I give a show when it's finished, sure. But it's fact that you cannot accurately give a show 5 stars when you've seen 1/12th or 1/24th of the show. No one can say a show is perfect from that little info.

Because for a show to get 5 stars it has to be great throughout its entire run, beginning to end. However, if you see stuff you really don't like in the first episode, writing that's weak or lazy, bad animation, cliche characters, you can already tell it's going to be bad. A show could start great in the first couple of episodes (Total Eclipse) and then devolve into something completely lame by the middle or end (Total Eclipse).

something can easily be rated 5 stars in the first episode as well lol just because your opinion for a show to be 5 stars is that it takes the whole season doesnt mean that everyone thinks that way

Episode star rating is pointless anyway so who cares.

How can you rate the anime anyway? I can't figure out how to do that.

It's a meaningless system not worth paying attention to. Everyone just rates either a one or a five star anyways so there's no way of getting an accurate idea for how good the show is regardless of rather they rated after the 1st episode or waited until the series end. It's just a stupid time killer for bored people on the internet.

You can freely rate each episode, but I think you have to actually write a review to rate a show in general.

In some shows the number of reviews does not match up with the voting numbers. That makes me confused.

Yeah, most animes seem to get rating based on the first couple of episodes:

Case in point (from MAL)
Attack on Titan 6178 users rated it 8.74 mean average AFTER ONE ******** EPISODE)
Skip Beat 38925 users rated it 8.46 mean average (after five years)

Yeah, I'm fairly new to CR and I have to admit I've had a lot of trouble gauging good shows to watch from the written reviews. In fact it seems kinda hard to find a show that doesn't have a majority of 5 star reviews. Its become more apparent at the start of the new anime season now. With everything new show being proclaimed the absolutely best thing evar in the episode comments of the first episode. Regardless of whatever the hell just appeared above them.

It might work better if episodes were rated individualily, then that was aggregated into a global average. With written reviews only permitted when the show finishes. So you could see the overall opinion of the show and gains or suffers accordingly if it gets better or worse through out its run.

Uta no Prince Sama: [http://www.crunchyroll.com/uta-no-prince-sama/reviews]. Two episodes released.

Obviously, it's not the most efficient way to rate shows so maybe they should try to improve the system or eliminate the rating functionality from the Reviews section. I know a lot of people like to review each episode so why not kill the ratings so that the show quality/non-quality isn't skewed for those of us that care.

Or do a separate "rate the show once it's complete" section that is based on the person's viewing habits (i.e., have CR scrape their History).

I am getting really tired of the 5-star 'reviews' posted after one episode of a new anime is aired. I know no one on this site believes this (due to the millions of reviews that say 'it was an OK show...5-stars') but 5 stars means it's a spectacular, amazing show.

There is NO WAY to know if a show is worth 5 stars after just one episode. There might be enough info to tell if the show is going to fail hard (Majestic Princes come to mind) in one episode, but spraying drool-flecked fanboy praise all over the screen after one episode just makes you look like an idiot.

So please, if you want to say how you really liked the first episode of a show, do it in the comments. Reviews are supposed to be a critical look at the worth of an anime, and you just cannot do that after one show.

Edit: To be perfectly clear, I'm talking about the written reviews under the 'Review' tab, not the star ratings on individual episodes.

You're so bro for this post. ^ I don't trust reviews anymore ever since Dragon Crisis apparently won an oscar according to this site's reviewers. It sucked giant monkey balls.

Hahahahahahaha oh my gosh this is what I'm talking about! Some of these people who review the shows I don't even think watch them.

Yes, it's annoying, and it's not just on Crunchyroll. People on all kinds of websites watch just the first episode/few episodes and immediately rate and write a review. I usually stop reading a review and move on to the next review immediately if I see something like "I've only watched 3 episodes so far, but the show is amazing." It's also annoying when they watch the first episode, don't like it, and give a whole bunch of nasty criticisms, as there are lots of shows that start off slow but get really good later on.
