Post Reply Your thoughts on the possibility of BTOOOM!!!! 2nd Season
Posted 12/24/13
NO..NO..NOO! I will hold out hope for a second season. Just sad really because I thought the story & concept was cool enough. Plus I've seen worse animes get a second season. I've been holding off on reading the manga because I'm still wishing for another season...*sigh*

They did leave it unresolved! The problem today most animes have 12 episodes instead of 24 like years ago! I think the industry rushes to put a manga to anime and see how it does? But doiing so has some animes rushed, botched or leave out material.

No, what has really changed is that today the anime is usually used to promote CURRENTLY PUBLISHING books. Since the books are currently publishing, the story isn't finished. They aren't rushing anything. They want to leave the story unfinished on purpose so you start reading the books.

Look at two examples this season: Gingitsune has been running since 2009, 2008 if you count the one shot mangas. They finally made it into anime this season but they only made 12 episodes, basically one chapter per episode but there are over 50 episodes done! If they wanted to make it a complete story they would wait for the manga to finish, then make 75-100 episodes or something. But that would defeat the purpose, as the manga would be done.

Unbreakable Machine Doll is the same. They finally make an anime and they only do up to book 3 which was written in 2010. There are 9 more books already written and more coming! Rush job? No, ad for the novels. Like the anime? Do you want to know how it ends? Buy the novels. It's done on purpose.

Long ago anime was made either to get commercial money or to sell toys. But this sort of anime now runs mostly at midnight to 4am when it is not a good time for ad revenue. And while toys are made they are not mainstream toys like they were in the '80s, they are figures for otaku mostly which is much more of a niche market. Anime is niche now mostly, certainly everything on Crunchyroll other than One Piece and Naruto are niche market.

Original anime has to stand on its own two feet, plus merchandising. But BTOOOM! is adapted so it is generally done to promote the source material. Just the way the biz works these days.

No argument here but it a sad state of affairs. I myself just scrape by so I cant afford to buy a lot of goodies sorry but a lot of us in the same boat. That being said it's sad I pay for a sub then the anime doesnt finish! I

The anime does get licensing fees so it got paid!

What does a book costs nowadays! I used to work a paper and the costs are high esp paper..

Went to Amazon Paperbacks 7 @avg $9.00 =$63.00 Comic 1-10 @$14.00 = $140.00 add 11 @ $29.00 Thtat's $ 170..00 for just one series. Either print lots of dollars.

Not for me sorry

Japanese books are cheaper. Most manga and novels are ¥400-700 which is $4-7 with exchange rates. But books are heavy so with express shipping to North America they end up as about $8-14 so similar so the cost of the translated books here. If you don't worry about the time, you can get cheaper shipping but you wait, wait, wait... So yes, buy 13 volumes of BTOOOM and it is about $130. That's just what it costs. The books are ¥514 so the author probably makes ¥51/copy. The rest is paper, printing, ads (including the anime), distribution, etc.

I saw that there was only 12 episodes so expected it to have a crappy ending and avoided watching it. Sucks that it sold poorly maybe it would have actually had a chance at a second season some time down the road, easily one of my favorite manga currently.

At this point, I don't care anymore. If I'd known about the non-ending from the start, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have watched.

The most likely scenario is that Btooom! will not get a second season. The sales in Japan for this series weren't just bad, they were atrocious. I don't understand as to why since I thought it was decent but the series just did not fly in Japan, it sank like a lead brick.
