And I turn the subs off, how about that? That's why I really like Crunchyroll compared to Funimation and TAN, for most of the shows I can turn the subs off. Not all of them... but most of them. Perhaps you can shed some light there too, why do some series have hard coded subs and others where they are apparently supplied like LoveLive! the subs are soft and can be turned off? It isn't just for English-speaking only licenses either...

This is another example of how things can differ depending on the content provider and the contract. Sometimes we receive hardsubbed files, and other times we can soft sub them, making the option available.

Thanks. I was wondering if sometimes the hard subbing was a contract requirement to again prevent the re-importation of Crunchyroll streams back to Japan since Japanese people would probably be bothered by the hard coded subs. I have read that some R1 home video contracts have similar stipulations.

Nice been watching this since it started couple weeks ago I was hoping CR would try and get it.

Wow, you stated watching it before it came out... even in Japan? That's so cool! Where did you watch it a couple weeks ago? Since it's release date in Japan was April 7.. which was last Sunday... one week ago....

Just teasing... I couldn't help myself, sorry ^_^

I looked for it on my Roku Crunchyroll app, but I can't find it even when I do a search. Is there a delay with certain internet connected devices? Can we only expect it on the website? Or is this just a technical question of getting the formatting right for all the devices?

I don't know about finding it using search on Roku, but I'd added this to my queue when it was first announced, and I am right now watching it on Roku.

Well, there are ways to move from the Netherlands to the UK without actually leaving the Netherlands, but that's not really a topic for discussion in a Crunchyroll forum.

I don't know what the share of the Crunchyroll subscriber base comes from what country ~ Alexa gives estimates of total traffic, in which the Netherlands is under the 0.5% share for being listed separately, but for one thing Alexa numbers are a bit shaky, and for another subscriber traffic would be swamped by free member traffic, but its subscriber base that would be generating the bulk of royalties. Looking at where the Netherlands stands in terms of regional access, it got 50% this season, 68% last season (the Fall and Spring seasons tend to have the higher profile series, where broad distribution is the hardest), compared to: (premium access, Spring/Winter):

80%/78% UK
80%/67% South Africa
65%/73% Australia
50%/68% the Netherlands
41%/62% Brazil

... the big difference with Latin America is the four Showgate licenses, since Showgate tended to include the Netherland and omit Latin America, but just as with Latin America, the Netherlands suffered from the limited regional terms from TBS and from Media Factor, which would have kept the Netherlands at about 70% if they included the Netherlands in their licenses.

hpulley wrote: And the subs ARE DIFFERENT between Funimation and Crunchyroll for episode 1!

Crunchyroll begins with, "That day, humanity remembered...the terror of being ruled by them. The humiliation of being kept in a cage.

While Funimation starts by subtitling, "Humanity was suddenly reminded that day...of the terror of being at their mercy...of the humiliation of being trapped in a cage..."

Cool ~ because now if the Japanese home video includes English translation, we'll be able to work out which company was the source.

Thanks, Crunchyroll.

Video quality looks the same as the same stream of episode 1 on Funimation Elite 720p on my laptop at least.

hey is there a way for me to test out the premium service of Funimation for like 2 days or something? because i made myself a free account, and the anime stream does not look 720p HD to me. that of course might be due to the fact that i am not a premium subscriber, however unlike crunchyroll, i am unable to find a button that allows me to change resolution, making it hard for me to come to the conclusion whether i am actually watching their HD content, or not..

Indeed 720p is a subscriber only benefit at Funimation.

When you sign up for the Elite Video Subscription, you have a two week trial, similar to Crunchyroll:
http://www.funimation.com/subscribe

Keep in mind that like CR (and most free trials), they will want your payment info up front so they can start charging you as soon as the trial period is over if you don't cancel.
