Neither Crunchyroll nor Funimation have released a specific time for when they will be broadcasting AoT. Any speculation as to why they haven't?

This was a beautiful move. As others have said, we will wait to see how Funimation shows the show to see what type of an agreement there was.

I am not privy to how these deals go, but the fact that Crunchy got this was so aces and to me shows that they are really pushing in this streaming...very interesting, this anime industry.

Happy to be Crunchyroll member.

I can imagine the exchange going something like this:

FUNIMATION: Okay, so we're agreed on the terms for the home video license. So we will also be wanting exclusive streaming rights for the show.

KODANSHA: You can license the streaming rights, but no exclusive.

FUNIMATION: Well, we may have to pass on the home video rights in that case.

KODANSHA: Really?

FUNIMATION: (Shuffles feet, looks down). No, not really.

KODANSHA: I thought so.

Sometimes they don't give Crunchyroll the broadcast tapes, and if they give digital files, it could be in any resolution from 480p on up, but Crunchyroll said when they announced 1080p streaming that they would only do 1080p streaming if they had the source materials to support it. So going on that, if they were given 720p source material, they wouldn't stream it at 1080p.

LoveLive! and Gargantia right now are 720p maximum, I guess for that reason.

If we have learned anything from this interesting licensing story it is that it isn't over until the fat lady sings. Funimation has streamed the first episode but that's all we know. Hopefully the details really are done and the ink dry on this one...

We don't have to wait, Funimation has streamed episode 1! It is Funimation so... 720 maximum. When the video works it works well.

Real question is, who is doing the subs going forward? Did Funimation do episode 1? Who is doing episode 2-25?

The manga itself is really good and the anime feels and looks like it will be similar to HOTD in art style which is great cause I think it fits really well.

This season is gonna be a blast. Some of these shows should not be judged by their covers (I regret having done so for a few of them, especially Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet and the severing crime edge), they deserve a chance at the very least before deciding completely.

Definitely going to be following 5 of this seasons shows so far, possibly more depending how they pan out.

On the topic of dual streaming rights, this is how it should be actually. Sites should compete with perks, customizations, community, etc... and not with anime content. Nobody wins if the customer has to watch it in one place and the producers lose out on their total potential audience.

Oh god YES!! Crunchyroll, I love you. As far as I know, you're streaming basically everything I want to watch, and the other, like, two things Funimation is streaming.

Awsum season is awsum.

Definitely watch all the shows and decide for yourself! I have watched the first 1-2 episodes of 24 simulcasts so far this season! Will be 25 when HenNeko is streamed here tomorrow. Will give each show at least 3-6 episodes to see how many I will watch to the end; you never know, maybe even all of them! Surprisingly only 2 of those 25 are shorts this season so that is close to 12 hours of simulcasts a week, amazing!

As for competing on customizations, that would be interesting. Not the usual way of things.
