Do you believe that we make choices completely by free will or are we just driven by biological and chemical impulses? ...or do you have some other view?

I think it's naive to believe one way or another.

We act on free will based on chemical impulses. We decide what is in our best interest at that point based on sensory feedback... ... .. . . . .. *moredrowsyramblings*

Absolutely. I am of course religous and believe our souls are what direct our actions.

The hanky-panky seems to always strip me of my free will.

I'm gonna go with free will, people are too complex to be driven just by biological or chemical impulses.

It is my free will to make all my decisions using a magic 8-ball.

The fact that you made a choice is free will... No one told you to choose it. Biological and what not will influence your choice based on your personality and beliefs... But ultimately you picked it..

Yes I believe in free will. With free will to think, feel, act and make decisions purely on your own. I stop there because the complete free will term would be free to do anything like killing people, stealing or anything like that. But to put it on the edge. Yeah we have free will to kill people and such but the consequences will never go unoticed. Jail or worse. So if free will works in all ways you just have to adapt to current society and modern times. If you steal you know you are going to be jailed. Only problem is if you not steal and still go in jail, then something is wrong. Yeah classic corruption indeed. For me I would never kill or steal without the thought of todays society since it is just wrong. Best to not get involved or anything like that. Don't start it then you won't need to stop it. For me I have free will of my own existence according to todays society but it is unfair and I try to keep the distance in most ways. I got nothing more to say...

I totally believe in free will. Although my opinion on the internet is as benign as one of my fists, I believe that man has a choice.

I choose not to kill people, I choose to go to school, and I choose to look up porn. The freedom of life is what makes it so damn fun. Not having free will is like not having bacon. It's fucking impossible. Besides, could you imagine a world without bacon? No? Good boy.

Do I detect a hint of Islamophobia?

Former Supreme Court Justice Cardozo discussed in his work The Nature of the Judicial Process that people start with a preconceived notion of what is right based upon their prejudices and world view. A job of a judge is to get beyond those original conceptions and establish an as objective decision as possible. It is one reason that Judges like to take time to consider their decisions.

We start our decisions based upon such things as flight or fight biological imperatives, but given time we can approach a decision as a process of free willed thinking. My answer is that given enough time our decisions approach free will, but in the immediate. "The cry of distress is the summons to relief [...] The emergency begets the man." We are much more likely to just respond to out biological imperatives.

So long as a person has the ability to think and act for themselves.
