I'm accepted into the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill for premedical studies. I'm hoping to be a pediatrician someday!

I can't say I'm as exciting as being a doctor. I work in the medical field as a radiologist technologist (the xray person). Right out of high school I tried nursing school and it was't for me. A friend suggested I try for xray, and I really love it. I get the interesting pictures, but don't have the pressure of having to fix the problem. I work fulltime in a hospital on the weekends and per diem at an orthopedic office. Get to meet interesting people and hear stories behind the whatever the problem is.

83% of radiologists didn't see the gorilla in this X-ray film. Too busy looking for cancer I guess.

NPR reported on this in February. http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/02/11/171409656/why-even-radiologists-can-miss-a-gorilla-hiding-in-plain-sight

I'm hoping to study the development of drugs and do a postgrad in neurology to work specifically with drugs used in psychiatric therapy.

That's what I do!

Did you get in to your field by a similar means to what I had in mind? Or did you do a specialised course or something else entirely?

I'm in a PhD program studying neuropharmacology. Specifically, the roles that the CNS alpha 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and the CNS beta estrogen receptor play in cognitive defects associated with major depressive disorder and antidepressant therapies.

I spend a lot of time with white rats.
