With the rise in gas prices, I was wondering whether it matters if you get Reg or Premium. In the owner's manual it says I should fill up with 93 or at least 89 octane rating of gas. So does it really matter? I know it has something to do with the way it burns but other than that I'm clueless.

Anyway, what do you fill up with?

All of my cars require Premium(91 in CA).

You CAN get away with lesser octane but can cause serious damage to your engine. Just follow what the OEM says and you will be A-Okay.

I'm all for premium grade, considering its like 3 octanes below what my motor uses sadly. If there was a place near me for 101 I'd use that.

if the manual suggests it do it.. if you pack your sports car with unleaded its gonna suck in performance than if you pack it up with premium and youre really gonna hurt your car that way

If you live in California, its not hard to get 100+ octane at a pump.

Octane rating is the resistance to combust. Don't buy a higher grade fuel because "it's better". Purchase what your owner's manual suggests. If you do not use the correct octane, you could potentially waste money and/or damage engine.

ALWAYS REFER TO YOUR OWNERS MANUAL.....

Luckily my Honda only need an 87octane. Two of my friends have BMW and G35, they put 87octane and find no difference. As long as you have the car maintained (check up, tune up, oil changes, etc.), putting an 87octane once in a while will not hurt.
