Do you only watch anime, or do you read manga as well?

Only watch anime... Cant get into reading manga or comics. Theyre just so short story-wise for me to buy. I wish they had manga that was a normal sized book with some pictures like every 5 pages or so and a couple hundred pages.

Thanks to streaming services like Crunchyroll, the entry cost for anime fans is much lower than it used to be, so I find myself watching a lot more anime than I used to (because I no longer have to pay $30 for a DVD ... or a VHS tape). Also, several manga publishers, most notably Tokyopop, are now out of business, and, where I live, there are no book stores to sell manga, anyway. I use to read quite a lot of manga, but the market for this type of fandom has changed a lot, so, these days, anime is the way. ($6.95 U.S. for a month of anime provides much more value than $12.99 for one volume of manga, IMO.)

Gah...I'm so out of the loop that I had no idea that Tokyopop went under!
crap, this means I have half a dozen series that I now need to hope that a seller on amazon or something has a copy still o.o I really hope I can find some cause I have at least, 30 or 40 volumes I'll have to purchase to make sure I can finish the series before they become 100% gone o.o

I only watch anime. I was never a fan of reading comics or manga. Plus all I hear on several message boards from people that do read a shows respective manga is how the anime sucks compared to the original material. I prefer to enjoy everything I watch instead of having a predisposition to not like it because it strays from the source material.

in that case, watch the anime, then read the manga, then rage over a bad anime adaptation.

I'm not saying there all bad, but I've seen some that were quite terrible...

@ m4xwellmurd3r : Tokyopop bit the dust at about the same time as Borders, back in 2011, since the two companies were closely tied. They left several series unfinished, but they had already been doing that due to staff cutbacks. (My favorite example: Kodansha had to do the final three volumes of Rave Master years after Tokyopop left that series hanging.) Then again, they had also been drawing fire from fans for using translators who were technically unqualified to do the job in order to save money. (There is a good article about this called "The Tokyopop Effect" if you are curious.)

See, that's how I feel. I'm worried about losing interest in an anime because the manga may be that much better and there are no fillers in manga for longer series.

I used to read manga. But not anymore unless I like the series IMMENSLY and it continues past the anime. I really did use to love manga but the idea of either buying it (HECK NO) or ceaselessly clicking away reading online is just too much for me these days.

I read a lot of manga cause I get to see the mangaka's true vision! However, I still love to watch the animes of the manga I read. If it gets to off track from the manga I try not to let it bug me. That doesn't always work, like in the case of my favorite manga Samurai Deeper Kyo, the anime for that was total crap, and it still pisses me off to this day!

I mostly watch anime, but in the case of Naruto/Bleach, where the manga is waaayyyy ahead, I read the manga. Then watch the anime as it comes out.

There are also the (rare?) cases with completed anime series that have more detail in the manga... I'll read the manga then.

I do a lot of each of them; I pick certain days where I want to read manga, watch anime, or do a little of both.

Well I am older....45... and I have just in the past few years gotten into anime because of influence of my 18 year old son...anyway... I like to watch the anime only, I tried reading the manga but I just couldn't get into it... and really to tell the truh, when i first started, i didn't even want to watch subtitles only, I only wanted to watch dub, but I was just too limited, I LOVE watching so much, I have probably completely watched 40-50 series in the past year.... way ahead of my son....Yeahhh.... I love anime.....
