Pearl Milk Tea
Posted 4/16/13
My fave flave is durian. My daughter prefers chocolate. She finally started asking for boba in hers, too.

When I first moved to Washington, everyone referred to it as bubble tea and it got me really confused. I like to call it boba, since that's what I know it by. Some places here don't know that term though, so I end up just asking for tapioca balls in my drink, plz.

I love milk tea, but not with pearl. I never liked pearl or jelly in my drinks. `_`

I want to try this. Ever since my friend told me about drinking one I have wanted to try. What do they taste like? Sometimes the consistency in pictures reminds me of a really thick tapioca pudding, is that far fetched?

The consistency is more like milk, really. The pearls are chewy, not quite rubbery, and taste like tea-infused tapioca (which they are, normally). Of course, you can get boba slush that has a different texture.

Thanks for letting me know. I had an idea of what they tasted like. Now I have to find somewhere that sells them.
Gets It.

No worries, mate! But yeah, the liquid is normally tea + milk or milk + flavouring (especially in the US, unless you go to a dedicated boba tea shop). The "proper" places normally make tea and add a flavoured milk to it. Most places in the US use a powder in some milk, throw in the tapioca pearls and there you go. Not to say they're not good too, but they're not what I call "the greatest". ;p Hope you find a place nearby that sells boba! It's hit or miss with some people, sure; but I love it.

For those talking about calories and all that: don't get one every, single, day. Maybe every 3-7 days at most. o_O.. I normally get one every few months now for that reason. They're so filling that they can make you feel a bit sick if you've eaten right on top of them.

I like it. It's a nice treat but I wouldn't have it every day. I don't really ever go out of my way just to get boba, but it's still nice. The best boba I've ever had came from a random roadside cart that a vendor in Taiwan was pushing around. It was a cup of chocolate milk tea that I will never forget. Sadly, I was unable to find the vendor ever again because there are about a million of those carts in Taiwan. There was also a really delicious coffee milk tea at a night market in Tainan.

My favorites in no particular order:
-Almond milk tea
-Green milk tea
-Coffee milk tea
-Chocolate milk tea
-Royal milk tea
