With Bleach and Fairy Tail out of the picture, do you think HunterxHunter
is now part of the so-called Big Three together with Naruto and One Piece of Heaven?

It was originally part of the 90's trinity with One Piece and Detective Conan,
but because of its consistent hiatus, it fell into the pits of irrelevancy
until it was rebooted last 2011.

Now, with the new arc starting next week, and with more viewers
and fans anticipating it, does it have what it takes to be called one of the Big Three?

Discuss.

I don't see how it could sustain that status since the manga has been stalled for years from what I hear.

I think the manga has enough material to be animated.
At least 2 or 3 arcs from what I've heard.

But death, HxH is known for its hiatuses,
it still doesn't stop it from easily outselling all of its peers except One Piece.

Quality-wise Hunter X Hunter easily meets the requirements, however it won't be able to keep up the pace. The author has announced that they plan to come off hiatus soon since the anime is doing so well, but there just isn't enough material to sustain it yet.

Hunter X Hunter has 340 chapters at the moment. For comparison, Fairy Tail has 327, and only 297 of them were animated in 175 episodes, plus filler. The big 3 put in tons of filler, either as seperate episodes or by merging them into canon episodes. Thus personally, I'd prefer for HXH not to become a big 3 series, because in order for that to happen we'd need filler, which nobody likes. I think the best solution would be to put the anime on hiatus like the manga, but not end it, to allow it to keep its quality.

But for my final answer, I'd say no, HXH shouldn't be in the big 3.

I really don't get this "big 3" thing. I think it's just an American thing or Western. Really there is only "big 1" now, but if you want to then yes I consider it part of the "big 3". Individual volume sales of HxH have been the same as Naruto with an average of 1.5 million copies a volume. However, Naruto is a regularly weekly published series, and HxH is not. So Naruto will always sell more because it will have 4 or 5 volumes released a year, while HxH may have only 1 or 2.

There are 2 arcs that have yet to be animated, Chimera Ant arc, which starts next week and an arc after it. The CA arc is very long. I guess it will run for about 2 years in the anime or maybe more. Hopefully the manga will resume by then.

I'm not familiar with the Manga, it's sales or anything related, but I think the Anime deserves a spot in the ''Big 2'' even with One Piece right now.

If we're talking Anime, other candidates like Bleach, Fairy Tail and even Gintama aren't airing anymore, Naruto has a hard time taking off from Fillerland and Toriko doesn't seem to have really started yet.

HxH is that type of pure battle-manga shounen show we all love to watch. I think they easily have enough material to pass the 100-episode mark. If I'm not mistaking, the only post-2010 Anime to do this is Toriko. Yep, times have changed.

Though the ''Big X'' label has always bothered me. OP is #1, then there's whatever shounen Anime that's airing and working. Again I'm talking exclusively Anime.

Hunter x Hunter
&
Fairy Tail
&
Toriko
They are all in the "Big 3" status.

One piece still the best... IMHO

Haven't seen Fairy Tail but as far as I'm concerned Hunter x Hunter 2011 is in the top 1.

H X H is stylistically very similar to the Big Three, but the creator has long been notorious for being unable to stay on schedule, and the anime has the strange distinction of being done twice over. It certainly fills a niche, but I do not see it becoming big enough to achieve that tier.

I'm not really into long anime but H X H is well done whereas the other anime mentioned kinda sucks.

Ever since the DBZ days I've never understood why anime fans care about the concept of a Shounen big 3.

Big 3 isn't about anime. It's never been about that, for the longest time the top 3 selling manga have been those three. Which back in beginning of 2000's or so was one piece naruto and Bleach. Just Imo though.

Big Three is not the same as the Holy Shonen Trinity.
The title is reserved forever to One Piece, Naruto and Bleach even if one or all of them are not "big" anymore or even end.
Now, I see your point.
But that manga should be considered over already. If anything I'd rather have Gintama be the third after One Piece and Naruto.
