When I started the series, it was actually very interesting and full of potential. I was excited to see where it would go.

7 episodes in, and nothing quite happened. Everything is still a little confusing and the worse part is, it feel that this going to drag out all the way to the end.
It had so much potential. But it felt like it decided to go nowhere.

Right now, that is annoying me tremendously.

I'm disappointed.

I just watched episode 5, and I'm feeling exactly the same way. Hearing that this will continue...well probably the only reason I'll keep watching (if I do keep watching) is because it's the only thing new (legal) on Wednesdays. So unless I get really engrossed in some catalog title or drama to be watching on an empty Wednesday, I'll probably figure I may as well plop down for a few minutes with RDG.

I do like the ED, though, so that's something.

Hmm....I'm not sure if I should drop it or continue.

I've only seen the first episode, but I'd like to ask a spoiler question.

Does Miyuki eventually become less of a dick?

I don't mind an introverted lead who'll go out of her way to avoid confrontation, but adding a second character with a broomhandle up his butt whose only apparent job involves flinging psychological abuse in her face was a bit of a turn-off. Especially in the end when he got manipulative with everyone else but still took it out on her later.

Just curious what his character arc looks like so far.

In my case, he's less irritating now compared to the previous episodes~

I agree. His character seems to be developing, and while he may not end up as totally sweet guy (or who knows, maybe he will), he gets less dickish and you start understanding why he was like that in the earliest episodes.

They are right. He gets less irritating and you only kinda understand why he is such asshole.

Agreed, I had to look this up, too. I think that the writers have just tried to pack waaaayyy too much plot into 12 episodes and a lot of things are getting lost in the scuffle. I haven't read the novels or the manga though so I could be wrong. It's a shame too, I was hoping this was going to be one of the best shows of the spring season.

I'm concluding that it is poor directing/writing/planning rather than intentional "suspense" that has resulted in some of the confusion being reported. When episode 6 started it seemed to jump right into the middle of something, and then provided a bunch of exposition that hadn't previously been hinted at (or if it was, I missed it), and for a moment I thought "wait, did I accidentally skip an episode?" I hadn't.

In the first couple of episodes I liked the air of mystery, and it made me curious rather than confused. Somewhere along the way the tone changed enough that even though I'm putting some pieces together and don't know where things are going, I also am not really caring where they are going. Plus, not really liking the characters--instead of growing on me, they are growing away from me.

Do you have to have a deep understanding of Shintoism and Japanese history to understand this anime? I'm still pretty lost.

I think it also has something to do with poor direction, writing, and character development though...every episode is more confusing than the last!

In my opinion this is the worst PA Works title that's come out so far. I'm really glad now that Crunchyroll used their resources to secure other titles than this one. Now that I'm like 10 episodes in I can safely say I do not like this anime at all.

Sadly it is a case of not enough episodes to adapt what is good but difficult to adapt source material. Episode nine covered 200 pages of the novels! Not a light novel either, no pictures in these. The show runner probably could have written the storyboard better though other work they have done has been good so I am not sure where the blame lies. I am still watching the show but I'm glad I have the novels. 6 novels for 12 episodes is tough. Sakurasou is light novel material for example and they did 6 novels in 25 episodes and they STILL had to skip way too much in my opinion; My Little Monster did 4 manga volumes in 13 episodes and manga has hardly anything in it compared to novels. 12 episodes for 6 full novels is just... impossible as we've witnessed.

I think it's poorly done compared to some of PA Works' other titles. It's way too confusing. I thought the first episode was alright but it just turned into a mess. I finished watching it a couple of hours ago, and I can safely say this is probably not one of the best anime of the season. Shame too. It sounded really interesting, and my heart was almost broken as I could see the potential.

I don't think the director has done other work for PA Works. PA Works is the animation studio. I think people confuse this all the time, they just anime what they're told to animate.

I am a bit shocked as the series composer, Michiko Yokote, did the screenplay for Tari Tari and I love Tari Tari! I had actually preordered RDG before the season started; I cancelled it but with PA Works animation and the Tari Tari screenplay writer I thought for sure it would be great so I am sad as well. Perhaps Michiko does better with original works, will have to check their resume. Lots of other good stuff... sigh.

I haven't finished the last two episodes yet. I will finish it but... won't be buying it.

Yeah, I had a feeling they were skipping a lot of things from the source material. Kinda disappointed, because I like this other book by the same author and was expecting more than this. Did they make this anime as bait for audience to buy the books for the full experience? lol
Would be great if the books get translated.

Anime is always an ad for the original work in adaptations. Sometimes I wonder if they leave stuff unfinished or incomplete to drive sales but I believe they want the anime to make money too. RDG may still sell enough to make money, but mine stops at the novels which I bought in hard cover so I already paid them a fair bit!

So you have the novel for RDG? I wonder if they rushed to animate it when maybe this might needed more material and to have 24 episodes instead of a confusing direction and storyline like we've seen. I like the two main characters for what it's worth.

6 novels! I have all six. Rushed indeed in 12 episodes. 24 would have been better.

All of the comments about this show really make me feel good about my ability to piece together information, because I haven't felt lost at all. I pretty much have understood what was going on, or figured out where the hints were that I missed after a reveal, throughout the series. I love the show.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I do think it would have been better with 24 episodes instead of 12, but at the same time I have seen people complain about it being too "slow" already, so if it had 24 episodes people that want action all the time would complain that it is boring. You can never please everyone, and anime fans appear to be some of the harder people to please, at least the ones that post on message boards.
