I guess it's making a bigger deal of it to cover more ground to help someone up. People behave like cats and try to act casual after mistakes. That said, I would definitely run across the room to check on him, since I'd be worried an old guy like that was having a heart attack. After looking around in the hopes someone else goes to check on him first so I don't have to, of course.

I suppose that could be it; I do prefer to avoid drawing attention to myself. Perhaps extroverts or attention whores are more likely to help others than introverted types.
