I thought that The Devil is a Part-Timer and The Severing Crime Edge would be the two "surprises" for this season for me, so I've kind of inverted the situation, because the fact that I really like them doesn't surprise me all that much The two shows that did surprise me would be Majestic Prince and Arata the Legend. Was expecting crap, both went better than expected

The two disappointments would be Photo Kano and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.
Photo Kano I thought would be decent, but is really boring.
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet I thought would be the greatest thing ever (my mistake) and is good, but not great so far. I'm waiting for that to finish airing before I watch it.

The third special case, apart from The Devil is a Part-Timer and The Severing Crime Edge, would be Zettai Bouei Leviathan, because I like watching it despite how horrible and disappointing everything about it is lol

Worst would have to be Yahari Ore No Seishun Love Come Wa Machigatteiru. Painfully slow and shows the reality of getting a bunch of awkward, dysfunctional characters together - instead of crazy hijinks, they have nothing in common and don't want to talk to each other.

Biggest surprise is everyone raving about Attack on Titan.

I think its a little early for me to establish surprise and disappointment. There are a few shows that are better than i expected. but Ill wait till the i watch episode 6 of every show before coming up with my judgement. Through the years i have had too many situations where shows have had a weak start and have turned out to be great and shows with a great start and have turned out horrible.

So far Valvrave has been less interesting than i had hoped, and Hataraku Maou-sama has been better than i expected, only due to not having read any of the source material before hand. After reading quite a bit of the manga, i am no longer surprised with the way the show is going. Ill wait a little longer to see how the shows develop.

My biggest surprise is would probably be Hataraku Maou-sama becausse of the silly premise about Demon King working at a Mcdonald's clone in the real world.

And my biggest disappointment i Majestic Prince because not only that there are cliches around, but the comedy is unfunny, the opening song isn't catchy compared to other animes that has this design (Gundam Seed, Scryed, Fafner, Linebarrel), and most of the characters are bland and uninteresting.

I have to say Valvrave was a disappointment. Then I saw that Sunrise was responsible for it, so I wasn't surprised anymore.

Disappointment: For me, it was Valvrave. I wasn't really expecting much to begin with though. I honestly found it to be boring and the plot is a bit cliche. Not sure if I'll stick around to finish it.

Surprise: Gargantia and Hataraku Maou-sama. Gargantia's synopsis sounded really interesting to me but I wasn't expecting to get hooked to it like I am now. Every minute is exciting (save for the first part of episode 1) and I always am looking forward to the next episode. And as for the Hataraku Maou-sama, I thought the whole idea of an overlord working at a McDonald's was pretty humorous. So far it's been entertaining and funny, so I hope it stays that way for the next 9 episodes.

Good question.

The surprise of the season for me has been The Severing Crime Edge. I came for the ridiculous concept, but stayed for the sweetest couple of the new season in Kiri and Iwai. Their chemistry is just fantastic, and the show plays its crazy concept so straight that it actually works as a serious series.

My biggest disappointment so far is Date A Live. I thought it could be really fun to watch someone straddle the line between seduction and destruction, but the protagonist is seemingly invincible, eliminating any potential tension. It doesn't help that the characters exist purely to be funny, which backfires because none of them are worth caring about.

Biggest disappointment this season has probably been Gargantia; not because it's bad or anything, just it hasn't been going where I hoped it would and honestly it's a bit boring now.
Biggest surprise this season would be Valvrave; not because it's good or anything, but because what should be an annoying show to sit through has actually been surprisingly entertaining. With the hype surrounding the show, I actively reminded myself to not have any expectations or I'll be disappointed, I suppose that might be part of why I enjoyed it.

I was surprised by YUYUSHIKI. Judging by the name and animation quality I thought for sure that it would be a 2-4 minute series. But its actually full length, and just the light hearted comedy series that I was in the mood for.

I'm also surprised by most of the other titles as well actually...this is a good season. Gargantia and Severing Crime Edge also came into with no expectations but ended up liking.

My biggest disappointment is probably Yahari Ore No Seishun Love Come Wa Machigatteiru (MY TEEN ROMANTIC COMEDY ~ SNAFU!). In terms of genre and animation quality it looked to be the one I would be the most interested in. But it's rather disjointed and boring. I'm also disappointed in Red Data Girl. It's just nowhere near as good as PA Works titles generally are. Not a very interesting story, rushed character development with boring characters.

I was disappointed by Muromi-san.

My surprises I guess you could say were: Gargantia, it wasn't what I expected and I'm not much of a mecca watcher but I think I'm going to like it. Also Severing Crime Edge. The first episode made it seem like a very odd show, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I stuck with it and it's caught my eye.

I'm confused with Zettai Boei Leviatan because I don't think it's good per say but I can't seem to stop watching it. I know I WANT it to be good but I just don't know if it will be.

I'm still in the process of sampling the Spring shows so there will be more surprises and disappointments for me.

For me, the biggest surprise was Gargantia, just because I usually try to shy away from shonen-y mecha series, but i'm really enjoying this one (so far, at least). Muromi-san was also a big surprise. Its the only other show under 20 minutes that I enjoy enough to watch (the other being Morita-san wa Mukuchi

Biggest disappointment? That's a though one. Its almost a tie between Aku no Hana and Zettai Boei Leviatan. I think i have to give it to Aku no Hana though (just because I still intend to watch Leviatan even if it isn't what I was really expecting). I know some people like the art style of Aku no Hana, but it just doesn't do it for me. At first I said "Hey this looks unique" but I thought they did that because that's what the manga looked like. When I discovered that the manga looked NORMAL i couldn't find any justification for them to do that lol.
