What war is like.

99% sit on your butt arguing who's the hottest one in the "ahem" magazine, having meaningful educated arguments about whether or not fire is alive, the one girl you met at that one bar, smoking, eating mres, having ridiculous contests (like a scavenger hunt or a muffin eating contest), patrols, reading a book, trying to get BBC from your radio, sleeping, fixing your vehicle, maintaining your weapon, spending some "quality time" with yourself, tying up the FNG, talking smack about your platoon sergeant, drinking water, patrols, complaining about the heat, trying to catch the local wildlife, watching the one guy with the psp play it, singing random love songs or songs nobody ever wanted to hear AGAIN (Barbie Girl from Aqua started as soon as I began to type this part), "measuring who's bigger" (exactly what you're thinking), patrols, more patrols, even more patrols, eating the local food, sitting on the bucket (literally) for hours because you ate the local food, endless meetings, even more effing patrols, carrying 100 lbs of stuff you'll never use (NEVER), emptying connexes just to find that one item, repacking the connexes you just emptied (supply had it in their hooch the entire time), re-emptying the same connexes because they want an inventory, repacking the connexes, watching the one guy do nothing the entire time, patrols, humanitarian aid (then have to listen to same people you're giving stuff to complain about how it's no good), wrestling with each other, watch your bed get knocked over because of said wrestling match, more "quality time", patrols, making a range you'll only use twice, enjoying the local "sights", and patrols.

1% IEDs and firefights.

War is either for domination or to "help" out

I came to this thread for lulz, but I didn't expect a post that would bring back so many memories.

I'll add a few. Playing cards, throwing rocks at each other, terrorizing the LT, running checkpoints, keeping score as to who pulled over largest number attractive women, trying to flirt with said attractive women, trying to keep the bugs off, trying to find someone to give you a cigarette, listening to or making a new operations order to do the same exact thing you did yesterday and the day before and the day before..., playing with captured weaponry or equipment, suffering through 2 hours of silent guard duty with that prick in 2nd platoon you can't stand, digging holes, filling in holes, trying to find a book you haven't read yet, waiting in line, talking about your ideal woman, playing sports in a needlessly aggressive manner, talking about what you're going to do when you get back/out.

The saddest thing is that I miss it.

As for "War", sometimes it is necessary, just as it is sometimes necessary for the police to use force. Most of the time it is not. There will always be those who will use violence as a tool to achieve their goals, so there will always be war.

What do I think of war? It's a joke. They tell us one thing, do it for another reason, all while putting our soldiers in harms way for their own interest. When was the last time the US went to war not to protect our own interest?

Each one in our history is tied one way or another to money. Whether it's to hold onto the petrodollar or to stop paying taxes to some king across the ocean, it will always be about the dollar. We may sugarcoat it with democracy to gain public support or long recruit lines, but the sad truth is our government just doesn't care about shit.

(Italics for our own interests because they aren't mine)

When it is happening, it is horrible.

When past, it becomes interesting.

All these people talking about how war is profitable are right and wrong. For a country, war will never be profitable anymore. The last war that was profitable was WWII. For the corporations in a country however, it can be very good. Selling hardware to their country, securing trade and resources as a result. War is good for business but bad for government anymore.

Makes me think of the battles on Meerkat Manor, except on a much grander scale.

I also think of interactions between Suzumebachi and honeybees.

I consider war to be natural for humans, however ugly they are.
